Hampton Raises Concern About Leftwich Throwing Motion

August 12, 2008 by In the Trenches

Pro Bowl nose tackle Casey Hampton raised his concerns about recently acquired quarterback Byron Leftwich.  "I'm seriously concerned about this guy.  He's not in the shape Coach Tomlin and the rest of the team thinks," said Hampton.  "I think (the team) has been running around in the sun too long and they aren't thinking straight."  After spending two weeks on the PUP list, Hampton has been forced to perform conditioning activities from the sideline and feels it has given him a different perspective.  "I am seeing everything over here, I'm clear as downtown Beijing.  I ain't beaten down by the sun and running around.  That (guy) has a serious issue with his throwing motion.  I could even (sack) him."  To offer further proof, Hampton dug up old game film from the Jaguars versus the Dolphins showing Leftwich's release clearly marked against the CBS game clock.  His release took a full seven seconds.

Note: the game pictures were enhanced to show a blown up version of the game clock.

"Did you see that?, " the Pro Bowler barked in regard to the old game film.  "My grandmama's got a faster release than that!  CBS could cut to mini commercial breaks."

Steelers' head coach Mike Tomlin failed to comment saying only, "tell Casey to come talk to me in another 20 pounds."
