Haven's 2003 Mock Draft , final version

April 25, 2003 by Steel Haven

Last Updated 4/25

Round 1

  1. Cincinnati Bengals

    QB Carson Palmer - USC

The Bengals have reportedly agreed in principal on a contract with Palmer ensuring that he will be the top pick in the draft. Drafting the ultimate replacement for a 31 year old journeyman starter with a career 72.9 passer rating and a history of making the big mistake at the wrong time seems to make sense, especially considering the Bengals focus on improving the defense through free agency. Signing Palmer before the draft so that he can immediately begin learning the offense and working with the coaching staff makes even more sense.
    • Needs: QB, DB, G/C, WR, DE
    • Other Options: none
    .
  2. Detroit Lions

WR Charles Rogers - Michigan St

This pick is not the no brainer it seemed to be just a few days ago. There has been some talk recently that Matt Millen might change directions and draft Terrence Newman with this pick, but when push comes to shove it will be tough to pass up Rogers. The Lions need to give Joey Harrington more talent to work with on offense. The decision by Ricky Williams to return to school and the unfortunate injury to Willis McGahee clearly makes Rogers the best offensive skill position player available. Doesn't hurt that Rogers is a Michigan native that grew up in Saginaw and played his college ball at East Lansing.
    • Needs: WR, RB, OG, DL, OLB
    • Hope might be available: no one
    • Other Options: CB T Newman, trade down
    .
  3. Houston Texans

WR Andre Johnson - Miami (Fla)

The Texans laid the foundation on defense in their first season and now must get help for David Carr on offense. The most glaring weakness is a lack of gamebreaking offensive skill position talent. Adding RB Shane Mack through free agency should help, but the receiving corps still needs a major upgrade. The Texans could trade down, but if they want a top offensive playmaker they can not move down more than a pick or two. Johnson possesses an impressive combination of size, speed, and hands. There is a major dropoff from Johnson to the next best receiver.
    • Needs: WR, OLB, OT, FS, DE
    • Hope might be available: WR C Rogers
    • Other Options: DT D Robertson
    .
  4. New York Jets (from Chicago)

    DT Dewayne Robertson - Kentucky

The Jets packaged the 13th and 22nd pick to move up for a chance at a true impact player. Robertson did not work out at the combine, but at Kentucky's pro day ran 2 sub-4.9 forties at 324 pounds and did 30 bench press reps of 225 pounds. Not just a workout warrior, he consistently beat double teams at Kentucky making big plays in the backfield despite being the focus of the opposition. Should Robertson not fall to this pick, the Jets would be perfectly happy with either Johnson or Kennedy.
    • Needs: DT, LB, WR, CB, OG
    • Hope might be available: WR A Johnson
    • Other Options: DT J Kennedy
    .
  5. Dallas Cowboys

CB Terrence Newman - Kansas St

New head coach Bill Parcells is said to be enamored with Dewayne Robertson, but Newman is more than just a consolation prize. He should become an immediate starter, providing blazing speed and solid coverage skills. The only slight knock on Newman is that he will turn 25 before the start of his rookie year.
    • Needs: DE, RB, CB, QB, DT, TE
    • Hope might be available: D Robertson
    • Other Options: DT J Kennedy, trade up
    .
  6. Arizona Cardinals

DE Terrell Suggs - Arizona St

The Cardinals are basically starting over. They have a number of needs on both sides of the ball and could go in just about any direction with this pick. A big play performer that broke the NCAA single season sack record with 22, Suggs would give Arizona an explosive edge pass rusher that can immediately contribute. The Cardinals were dead last in the NFL in 2002 with a paltry 21 sacks and an improved pass rush can only help the defensive backs.
    • Needs: WR, DE, QB, CB, LB
    • Hoped might be available: WR A Johnson, CB T Newman
    • Other Options: DT J Kennedy, QB B Leftwich
    .
  7. Minnesota Vikings

DT Jimmy Kennedy - Penn State

The Vikings are still looking to add bulk on the defensive line after being foiled in their attempt to draft Ryan Simms last season by a last second trade between the Cowboys and Chiefs. On the field Kennedy is an overpowering player with a quick first step and the lower body strength to handle double teams. Kennedy looks to be a perfect fit beside Chris Hovan, although he has been a bit of a disapointment in postseason workouts.
    • Needs: DL, FS, LB, WR, CB
    • Hope might be available: CB T Newman, DT D Robertson
    • Other Options: CB M Tufant, trade down
    .
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars

    QB Byron Leftwich - Marshall

Leftwich has prototypical size, a cannon arm, and the leadership skills to develop into a franchise QB. He showed remarkable toughness playing through a stress fracture in his lower leg as a senior. Leftwich was medically cleared at the combine and solidified his spot in the top ten at a workout for scouts in mid-April. Leftwich would have time to grow into the job behind veteran Mark Brunell.
    • Needs: WR, CB, RT, OG, LB
    • Hope is available: WR A Johnson
    • Other Options: OT J Gross, CB M Trufant
    .
  9. Carolina Panthers

    OT Jordan Gross - Utah

The Panthers' agressive targetting of offensive skill position talent in free agency resulted in the signings of Jake Delhomme, Stephen Davis, Kevin Dyson, and Ricky Proehl. Now Carolina needs to focus on building an offensive line to protect their investments. Gross is the best bet of all the offensive lineman in this draft to have immediate success. He is a natural left tackle that has enough toughness and aggresiveness to start his career on the right side.
    • Needs: CB, OL, TE, WR, FS
    • Hope might be available: WR A Johnson
    • Other Options: CB M Trufant
    .
  10. Baltimore Ravens

    QB Kyle Boller - California

Boller rocketed up draft boards based on a breakout senior season and impressive post season performances at both the Senior Bowl and combine. Brian Billick has gotten by with a string mediocre QBs by emphasizing ball control and defense. Boller would give Billick the opportunity to develop a wide open offense more reminiscent of his work in Minnesota. The Ravens find themselves in an interesting situation with this pick. By most accounts Billick is very interested in Boller, but Ozzie Newsome reportedly is not sure Boller provides enough value at this spot. If the Ravens do attempt to trade down and still select Boller they need to be careful with the Bears now owning the 13th pick.
    • Needs: WR, DL, QB, OT
    • Hope might be available: DT J Kennedy, QB B Leftwich
    • Other Options: trade up for Leftwich, trade down for Boller
    .
  11. Seattle Seahawks

DT Kevin Williams - Oklahoma St

Williams opened some eyes at the Senior Bowl after not always getting the recognition he deserved playing in Stillwater. A productive multiyear starter, Williams has a quick first step and excellent speed. The Seahawks need an upgrade across the entire defensive front. Taking Williams over a top defensive end would provide them with a disruptive force against both the pass and the run.
    • Needs: DL, FS, LB, OL, CB
    • Hope might be available: DT J Kennedy
    • Other Options: CB M Trufant, DT J Sullivan
    .
  12. St. Louis Rams

CB Marcus Trufant - Washington St

The trade of a 2004 second round pick for Kyle Turley gives the Rams more flexibility with this pick. Mike Martz is reportedly looking to add speed and athleticism to his defense. Trufant is a fluid athlete with above average recovery speed. He was very impressive at the Senior Bowl and a solid forty time at the combine solidified his status as a top pick. Having Trufant available at this point is really a best case scenario for the Rams. Don't be surprised if a team like the Saints or Cheifs put together a package to move into the top 10 for Trufant.
    • Needs: CB, LB, OL, TE, WR
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: LB B Bailey
    .
  13. Chicago Bears (from Washington thru NY Jets)

    DT Jonathon Sullivan - Georgia

The Bears defense had success two years ago with DTs Kevin Traylor and Ted Washington clogging the middle. Sullivan would provide that type of huge presence which MLB Brian Urlacher sorely missed last season. Sullivan is a young, developing player with a solid frame and a quick first step.
    • Needs: DL, OT, SS, QB, OLB, RB
    • Hope might be available: QB K Boller
    • Other Options: DE C Kelsay, DE J McDougal
    .
  14. New England Patriots (from Buffalo)

    DT Ty Warren - Texas A & M

The run on defensive lineman is in full gear. This is a bit early for Warren, but Bill Belichek can not risk having him selected before the Patriots second pick in the first round. Warren is a talented player with an impressive combination of size and quickness that needs to improve his conditioning and consistency.
    • Needs: DT, OL, DE, RB, CB
    • Hope might be available: DT J Sullivan
    • Other Options: trade up for DT D Robinson or DT J Kennedy
    .
  15. San Diego Chargers

    LB Boss Bailey - Georgia

Although the Chargers really need to upgrade the defensive line, they are also very thin at LB after dealing Junior Seau to the Dolphins. Bailey provides good value with this pick having slid a little farther than expected because of the run on defensive lineman. The younger brother of Redskin corner Champ Bailey has the speed of a DB and enough size to thrive at OLB. The main knock on Bailey is that he sometimes overpursues and misses tackles. That should be correctable.
    • Needs: DT, OL, S, CB, LB
    • Hope might be available: DT J Sullivan, DT T Warren
    • Other Options: DT W Joseph, OL E Steinbach
    .
  16. Kansas City Chiefs

    DE Chris Kelsay - Nebraska

Current reports indicate that Dick Vermeil prefers Kelsay over the other remaining DE prospects. He is a tall, lanky player with a nice burst around the corner. Kelsay came on as the season progressed after missing time with a torn hamstring. He solidified his place as a first rounder at the combine by running 2 sub-4.75 forties while carrying 273 pounds on his 6'4" frame. The Cheifs could try to trade down for Kelsay figuring other teams that might take a DE would have Michael Haynes and Jerome McDougal rated higher.
    • Needs: DE, WR, DB, RB, MLB
    • Hope might be available: CB M Trufant
    • Other Options: CB S Davis, CB A Woolfolk, trade down
    .
  17. New Orleans Saints

DT William Joseph - Miami (Fla)

Joseph is a disrupted lineman blessed with incredible quickness. His stock has fallen somewhat after an inconsistent senior campaign in which he was part of a DT rotation because of the high talent level in the Miami program. Joseph would be a nice compliment to run stuffers Grady Jackson and Norman Hand.
    • Needs: CB, LB, DT, SS, TE
    • Hope might be available: DT J Sullivan
    • Other Options: LB E Henderson, trade up for CB M Trufant
    .
  18. New Orleans Saints (from Miami)

C Jeff Faine - Notre Dame

Faine is a tenacious, physical presence with impressive quickness and technique. He has the ability to step right in with guards LeCharles Bentley and Kendyl Jacox to form one of the best interior lines in the league.
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: S T Polamalu, CB S Davis, CB A Woolfolk
    .
  19. New England Patriots

    OL Eric Steinbach - Iowa

Steinbach played OG at Iowa, but has the size and athleticism to play LT. He was named the Big 10 offensive lineman of the year. The scary thing is that Steinbach is still learning the intricacies of his position after being recruited as a TE.
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: DE M Haynes, LB E Henderson, RB L Johnson
    .
  20. Denver Broncos

DE Michael Haynes - Penn St

Haynes is a relentless worker with the knack for making the big play. He took many by surprise as a senior leading the Big 10 with 14.5 sacks and 22 tackles for a loss. He also was credited with 7 forced fumbles. Haynes was the defensive MVP of the Senior Bowl. After tweaking a hamstring at the combine, he re-established himself as a player on the rise with a solid on campus workout.
    • Needs: DE, CB, S, OT, OLB
    • Hope might be available: OL E Steinbach
    • Other Options: CB S Davis, CB A Woolfolk, OT K Harris
    .
  21. Cleveland Browns

    CB Sammy Davis - Texas A & M

The Browns need to find immediate starters for a defense decimated by cap related cuts. Davis was a 3 year starter at A&M that put to rest questions about his speed with blazing postseason workouts. He is a smart player that should be able to step in quickly and play.
    • Needs: LB, CB, OL, DT, TE
    • Hope might be available: LB B Bailey, OL E Steinbach
    • Other Options: OT K Harris, LB E Henderson
    .
  22. Chicago Bears (from NY Jets)

    QB Rex Grossman - Florida

The Bears trade down allows them to draft a run stuffing defender and a QB of the future. Grossman is an accurate passer that understands the game and can make all the required throws. He is a bit of a riverboat gambler that needs to develop more consistency.
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: DE J McDougal, OT K Harris
    .
  23. Buffalo Bills (from Atlanta)

DE Jerome McDougal - Miami (Fla)

The Bills still need to improve their pass rush after upgrading the rest of their defense through free agency after freeing up cap space with the trade of Peerless Price. McDougal provides tremendous speed and lateral movement. He drops mostly because at 6'1" he is not as tall as some teams would prefer.
    • Needs: DE, WR, FB, S, CB, TE
    • Hope might be available: DE M Haynes
    • Other Options: WR K Washington, TE J Witten
    .
  24. Indianapolis Colts

    S Troy Polamalu - USC

Polamalu has a reputation as a leader and a hard worker. He is a physical player that was utilized more like an extra linebacker than a traditional safety in Pete Carroll's scheme at USC. Polamalu ran two sub-4.4 forties at his on campus workout. His vertical jump was 43 inches and his long jump was 10'7". Although his coverage skills are still raw, there is really no reason with his athleticism and work ethic that he should be unable to develop into a solid pass defender. Polamalu's main drawback is a lack of protypical height at 5'10". His vertical leap somewhat offsets that concern.
    • Needs: OLB, S, OG, CB, DT, TE
    • Hoped might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: LB N Barnett, S M Doss, CB A Woolfolk
    .
  25. New York Giants

DL Kenny Peterson - Ohio St

Peterson burst onto the national scene as a major component in Ohio State's unlikely National Championship run. He capped off his breakthrough season with a dominating performance in the Fiesta Bowl. Peterson is a versatile lineman that could legitimately line up at either DT or DE in a 4-3. He would serve a dual purpose for the Giants, in the best case scenario providing a huge presence at DE oppposite Michael Strahan while also acting as insurance at DT in case Keith Hamilton fails to return from his torn achilles tendon.
    • Needs: DL, LB, OL, WR
    • Hope might be available: DE J McDougal
    • Other Options: OT K Harris, trade up for a DL
    .
  26. San Francisco 49ers

    OT Kwame Harris - Stanford

Harris is a huge, athletic RT with the skills to move to the left side in time. Harris drops a bit farther than expected because he is not quite as physical as most teams would like. That should not be a huge issue in the Niners scheme.
    • Needs: DL, OT, CB, WR
    • Hope might be available: QB R Grossman, DT K Peterson
    • Other Options: OT W Hunter, WR T Jacobs
    .
  27. Pittsburgh Steelers

    CB Andre Woolfolk - Oklahoma

The Steelers desperately need to add speed and athleticism to their defensive backfield. They are reportedly trying to move up to procure the services of Troy Polamalu, but if that fails can still be expected to address their main shortcoming on defense. Woolfolk is a raw prospect that only moved to CB full time as a senior. His play lagged down the stretch when opponents started to avoid junior Derrick Straits. After watching his draft stock plummet with a poor showing at the Senior Bowl, Woolfolk has climbed back into first round consideration by displaying top athleticism in drills at the combine and Oklahoma's pro day. He could contribute as a dime back while continuing to learn the CB position.
    • Needs: CB, S, OT, DE, QB
    • Hope might be available: CB S Davis, S T Polamalu
    • Other Options: RB L Johnson, trade up
    .
  28. Tennessee Titans

RB Larry Johnson - Penn St

Eddie George is beginning to slow down and the Titans need to start thinking about finding his ultimate replacement. Johnson solidified his position in the draft with an impressive Senior Bowl performance and pro day workout. A big back with deceptive speed, Johnson provides an added dimension because of his ability to contribute in the passing game.
    • Needs: WR, CB, RB, OLB
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: WR T Jacobs, DB R Mathis, WR K Washington
    .
  29. Green Bay Packers

    LB EJ Henderson - Maryland

There has been alot of talk about the Packers drafting a QB for the future. Unforunately for them no one they really like is available. One thing is certain, Green Bay can use all the help at LB that they can get. Henderson lacks the blazing speed most teams covet, but is a playmaker that on the field has shown sideline-to-sideline range against the run.
    • Needs: LB, QB, DT, OL
    • Hope might be available: QB R Grossman, DT T Warren
    • Other Options: QB C Simms
    .
  30. Philadelphia Eagles

    TE Jason Witten - Tennessee

Witten is the best all around TE available in this years draft. He is a tenacious blocker with the speed and hands to be a major component in the passing game. Witten is actually still learning the TE position after moving from DE as a sophomore. Chad Lewis is starting to slow down and Witten would provide Donovan McNabb with a much needed weapon. There has been alot of talk that the Eagles are enamored with TE LJ Smith, but should Witten fall this far they would have to strongly consider changes their plans.
    • Needs: TE, WR, DE, LB, OG, RB
    • Hope might be available: LB E Henderson
    • Other Options: RB W McGahee, trade down for TE L Smith
    .
  31. Oakland Raiders

    WR Kelley Washington - Tennessee

Washington is a major wild card in this draft. He is a top athlete that spent time in the Florida Marlins system. Some scouts thought he outplayed 2002 first rounder Donte Stallworth during the 2001 season. Washington suffered a neck injury in October that required spinal fusion surgery. He has been medically cleared to play, but the injury and Washington's perceived attitude problems will be a concern for some teams. The Raiders are in a position to gamble on his obvious talent.
    • Needs: DE, FS, RB, WR, G/C
    • Hope might be available: C J Faine
    • Other Options: DB R Mathis, RB W McGahee
    .
  32. Oakland Raiders (from Tampa Bay)

    DE Cory Redding - Texas

Redding is a bit of an enigma on the field. A physically gifted player that looked like he should be dominant on the college level, Redding had a tendency to disapear during stretches of games. He could legitimately drop out of the top 50 after being thought of as possibily a top 10 talent entering the season. Redding is a first rounder because of the Raiders acute need at the DE position plus their belief that they can get the most out of a physically gifted underacheiver.
    • Hope might be available: C J Faine
    • Other Options: DB R Mathis, RB W McGahee

Round 2

  1. Cincinnati Bengals - S Mike Doss - Ohio St
  2. Detroit Lions - RB Willis McGahee - Miami (Fla)
  3. Chicago Bears - DE Calvin Pace - Wake Forrest
  4. Houston Texans - OT Wayne Hunter - Hawaii
  5. Arizona Cardinals - WR Taylor Jacobs - Florida
  6. Dallas Cowboys - RB Chris Brown - Colorado
  7. Jacksonville Jaguars - WR Bryant Johnson - Penn St
  8. Minnesota Vikings - DB Rashean Mathis - Bethune Cookman
  9. Baltimore Ravens - OT George Foster - Georgia
  10. Seattle Seahawks - DE Tyler Brayton - Colorado
  11. St Louis Rams - TE LJ Smith - Rutgers .
  12. Washington Redskins

WR Tyrone Calico - Middle Tenn St

It is hard to shake the nagging suspicion that with their first pick in the draft the Redskins will be unable to fight the inclination to add another offensive toy for Spurrier. Calico displayed an intriguing combination of speed, size and athleticism at the combine and in his individual workouts. He does need to work on improving his concentration and consistency.
    • Needs: DT, S, DE, WR
    .
  13. Carolina Panthers - CB Eugene Wilson - Illinois
  14. San Diego Chargers - DT Rien Long - Washington St
  15. Kansas City Chiefs - RB Justin Fargas - USC
  16. Buffalo Bills - TE Dallas Clark - Iowa .
  17. Miami Dolphins

    OT Jon Stinchcomb - Georgia

The Dolphins are looking for a blind side pass protector that can step into the lineup immediately. Stinchcomb started 46 games in his college career. Considered a bit undersized after playing at about 285 pounds, Stinchcomb solidified his draft status at the combine by weighing 302 pounds and doing 32 reps of the 225 pound bench. Stinchcomb is an intelligent player known for his solid technique and excellent footwork. He is the brother of Raiders OT Matt Stinchcomb. There is some speculation the Dolphins may try to put together a package to move into the lower part of the first round after they dealt a 2004 2nd rounder for an extra 3rd round pick.
    • Needs: OT, S, WR, QB
    .
  18. New England Patriots - RB Lee Suggs - Virginia Tech
  19. Denver Broncos - CB Dennis Weathersby - Oregon St
  20. New Orleans Saints - LB Terry Pierce - Kansas St
  21. New York Jets - S Julian Battle - Tennessee
  22. Cleveland Browns - DT Nick Eason - Clemson .
  23. Atlanta Falcons

    S Ken Hamlin - Arkansas

The Falcons only have one pick on the first day and need to find some immediate help for their depleted secondary. Hamlin is a big, rangy, hard hitting safety with solid coverage skills. There is really little question about Hamlin's ability on the field, but two drunk driving arrests in the span of 14 months before the start of last season could scare some teams away.
    • Needs: DB, OL, DL, WR
    .
  24. New York Giants - OT Brett Williams - Florida St
  25. San Francisco 49ers - QB Chris Simms - Texas
  26. Indianapolis Colts - LB Nick Barnett - Oregon St .
  27. Pittsburgh Steelers

    LB Antwan Peek - Cincinatti

Peek is the classic 4-3 DE/OLB tweener the Steelers look for as a 3-4 OLB project. He would immediately provide a presence as an edge pass rusher in the nickel package while being groomed to eventually replace Jason Gildon. Peek is an athletic player with a very quick first step that looked good in LB drills at the combine where he did a full workout. Peek measured in at 6'2" and 246 pounds and ran two forties at 4.60 or better. He had an impressive 37 inch vertical leap and did a solid 21 bench press reps of 225.
    • Hope might be available: S J Battle, RB C Brown
    • Other Options: DE J Johnson, S T Kiel, RB M Smith
    .
  28. Tennessee Titans - CB Drayton Florence - Tuskegee
  29. Philadelphia Eagles - DE DeWayne White - Louisville
  30. Philadelphia Eagles (from GB) - WR Kevin Curtis - Utah St
  31. Oakland Raiders - OG Vince Manuwai - Hawaii .
  32. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    RB Onterrio Smith - Oregon

Smith is a versatile back with explosive speed that based on talent alone is a borderline first rounder. He is available at this spot because of off the field issues. Smith was kicked off Tennessee after testing positive for marijuana and was arrested for drunk driving not long after arriving at Oregon. Coming off a Super Bowl victory with their first pick at the end of the second round the Buccaneers are in a position to take a gamble.
    • Needs: OL, FS, CB, RB

Round 3

  1. Cincinnati Bengals - OG Torrin Tucker - Southern Miss
  2. Detroit Lions - CB Kevin Garrett - SMU
  3. Houston Texans - DT Jarrett Johnson - Alabama
  4. Chicago Bears - RB Musa Smith - Georgia
  5. Dallas Cowboys - TE Bennie Joppru - Michigan
  6. Arizona Cardinals - QB Dave Ragone - Louisville
  7. Minnesota Vikings - WR Sam Aiken - North Carolina
  8. Jacksonville Jaguars - LB Gerald Hayes - Pittsburgh
  9. Seattle Seahawks - OG Montrae Holland - Florida St
  10. St Louis Rams - LB Chaun Thompson - West Texas A&M
  11. New England Patriots (from Was) - LB Bradie James - LSU
  12. Carolina Panthers - TE/WR Teyo Johnson - Stanford
  13. Baltimore Ravens - WR Talman Gardner - Florida St
  14. Miami Dolphins (from KC thru NE and NO) - OLB Cie Grant - Ohio St
  15. Buffalo Bills - CB Donald Strickland - Colorado
  16. San Diego Chargers - S Charles Tillman - La Lafayette
  17. Washington Redskins (from NE) - DT Kenny King - Alabama
  18. Denver Broncos - OT Tony Pashos - Illinois
  19. New Orleans Saints - S Terrence Kiel - Texas A&M
  20. Miami Dolphins - WR Kareem Kelly - USC
  21. Houston Texans - DE Tully Banta-Cain - California
  22. Cleveland Browns - LB Shurron Pierson - South Florida
  23. New York Jets - WR Walter Young - Iowa
  24. Houston Texans (from Atl) - S Nnamdi Asomugha - California
  25. San Francisco 49ers - DE Kindal Moorehead - Alabama
  26. Indianapolis Colts - TE Aaron Walker - Florida
  27. New York Giants - LB Clifton Smith - Syracuse .
  28. Pittsburgh Steelers

DB Bryan Scott - Penn St

Scott is a smart, physical player that excels against the run. His size and play recognition skills make him an excellent edge blitzer which should be a benefit in the Steelers' scheme. The thought was that he was too slow to remain at CB, but he ran two sub-4.5 forties at his on campus workout. Because of his tackling ability and physical nature he probably still projects as a SS that can cover the TE.
    • Hope might be available: S T Kiel, TE B Joppru, LB S Pierson, CB B Strickland
    • Other Options: S D Johnson, TE R Johnson, RB C Sapp
    .
  29. Tennessee Titans - WR Brandon Lloyd - Illinois
  30. Green Bay Packers - DT Ian Scott - Florida
  31. Philadelphia Eagles - OG Wade Smith - Memphis
  32. Oakland Raiders - S Terrence Holt - North Car St
  33. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - C Al Johnson - Wisconsin

Second Day

4.125 Pittsburgh Steelers RB Artose Pinner - Kentucky

Pinner was virtually unknown before bursting onto the scene this season. A punishing runner that was originally a FB, he is also an accomplished receiver and blocker. The main knock on Pinner is that he lacks top straight line speed and elusiveness. Pinner's draft stock has dropped after a broken leg in the Senior Bowl.
Other Options:
  • WR Arnaz Battle - Notre Dame
  • S Colin Branch - Stanford
  • NT Colin Cole - Iowa
  • CB Torrie Cox - Pittsburgh
  • OLB Sam Williams - Fresno St
5.163 Pittsburgh Steelers S Hanik Milligan - Houston

A redshirt senior that played 2 years at Houston as a JUCO transfer. Milligan ran a 4.49 forty at the combine with a 36 inch vertical leap at 6'2" and 206 pounds. He was most effective in the box attacking the run, finishing his 2 year career with an incredible 236 tackles. Milligan is raw in coverage and has a tendency to be overagressive.
Other Options:
  • OLB Nick Burley - Fresno St
  • DE Antonio Garay - Boston College
  • CB Michael Lehan - Minnesota
  • QB Brian St. Pierre - Boston College
  • QB Seneca Wallace - Boston College
6.200 Pittsburgh Steelers DE Clifton Washburn - Citadel

Washburn is the definition of a project. He lettered 4 years in basketball before suiting up to play football in 2002 as a senior for the first time since middle school. He is 6'6" with a long wingspan and the frame to significantly add to his current 272 pounds. The Steelers would have to be patient, but Washburn has the physical skills to develop into a complete player.
Other Options:
  • WR David Kircus - Grand Valley St
  • S Derek Pagel - Iowa
  • QB Tony Romo - Eastern Illinois
  • CB BJ Tucker - Wisconsin
  • DE Osi Umenyiora - Troy St
7.242 Pittsburgh Steelers QB Brooks Bollinger - Wisconsin

The athletic Bollinger finished his college career as the all time winningest QB in Wisconsin history. He was more impressive than many expected at the combine and in post season workouts. Bollinger showed improvement every year in college, although he continued to be plagued by inconsistency throughout his career.
Other Options:
  • CB Blue Adams - Cincinatti
  • QB Curt Anes - Grand Valley St
  • NT Roy Attieh - Kent St
