Its quite
sad, and frankly pathetic, that during this season of incredible surprise, so
many posters on this site remain mired in the negative. The clearest examples, in order:
- Bettis: Ive written about this several times
this year. It defies logic, how any
Steeler fan, whose sole priority in watching the
Steelers is having the team be successful, would:
- Care a wit who scores the
touchdowns, as long as theyre being scored
- Continue to dis a guy whose insertion into last weeks game
arguably was the catalyst in turning a 3-3 tie into a 17-6 win.
Until the Staley injury, so many
posters were upset that Bettis was scoring TDs,
 presumably stealing
them from Duce. It didnt matter that
every time during this period
that Bettis was called upon to tote the pig into the end zone
that he did so. It seemingly
 still
doesnt matter that theres only been one occasion where this hasnt worked,
and that
 during the
Cleve game where Bettis scored 2 times out of 3
attempts.
 The Bettis-bashing
reached the height of absurdity this week, with newcoming
idiots like
 RetireJB36, fueled by long-time and
remaining idiots like KillCowher, suggesting that
 Bettis
should have retired 3 years ago, should be traded to
Lets examing what Bettis did on Sunday.
He entered a 3-3 game late in the 3rd quarter.
He carried the ball 4 times consecutively,
moving it from the Jets 31 to the Jets 10 or 11.
He then completely sold the Jets D
on another run, before stepping back and tossing a
TD pass. On the next series, with his team up by 4, he
gets the ball on a 3rd & 3, is hit
 prior to
reaching the first down marker, but breaks the tackle and scores. Had he not
 broken this
tackle, were kicking a FG, and up by 7 points with 3 minutes left. Bettis made
 this a 2-score game,
effectively putting it out of reach.

I dont get it. This guy certainly loves the camera. He also love to pile
up yards, and has
done so more prolifically than all but 5 backs in the
history of the National Football League.
His performance THIS YEAR has contributed mightily
to the Steelers success. One can
 him fail
than see our team win.
- Cowher: Ive criticized Cowher
plenty myself over the years, for some of his game-time
decisions, clock management, etc. This year, though, hes doing a damn good
job, and
its plain unfair for people to assume that all good
decisions are the result of Cowher
yielding to the wishes of his coordinators, while bad
decisions are the result of Cowher
making the respective call himself. Cowher clearly has
this team focused like a laser.
 Yet, it he
doesnt win it all, the populace of this site will be suggesting that he
choked,
 etc. Only one guy can
win the Super Bowl each year.
- Plaxico/Hines debate: Im particularly irritated by the
tendency to diminish another players cababilities
when trying to promote another.
Hines Ward is a helluva football
player. Hes clearly the toughest Steeler, is exuberant, fights
for every yard. Why must we
criticize Hines in order to promote Plaxico? Lets love em
both. Why must we criticize Staley
in order to promote Bettis. Lets love em both.
In sum,
this has been truly a magical year, offering us more joy, and hope as Steeler fans, than any of us had any right to expect. Lets enjoy the ride!!
