2005 NFL Mock Draft, v2.0

April 23, 2005 by Steel Haven

Round 1

  1. San Francisco 49ers

    QB Alex Smith - Utah

The top of the draft remains in a state of flux even at this late hour. The 49ers have not signed Alex Smith and there continues to be rumors that this pick could be used on Braylon Edwards by either the 49ers or another team via trade. Barring a deal expect Alex Smith to be the selection. Smith combines nice size and athleticism with solid intangibles. He is smart both on the field and off having already earned his bachelor's degree as a 3rd year junior. Smith's speed and mobility should really help behind a less than stellar line. His having played in a mid-major conference in a non-traditional passing offense appears to be less of an issue after the recent successes of a couple of high draft picks that came from a similar background.
    • Needs: QB, FS, OG, DL, RB, WR
    • Other Options: WR B Edwards, QB A Rodgers, trade down
    .
  2. Miami Dolphins

    RB Ronnie Brown - Auburn

The Dolphins desperately want to trade this pick if Alex Smith is off the board to a team that covets Braylon Edwards. The deal of Patrick Surtain does give them some flexibility. The Dolphins could pull the trigger on Edwards if a deal can't be made and address the running back position with the pick they received from the Chiefs in the second round. In the end though the drop off in talent from Ronnie Brown to the backs that will be available in the second round may be too big to ignore. Brown is a solid all around prospect even though he often had to play second fiddle to Carnell Williams at Auburn. He has the kind of size/speed ratio that excites scouts. Brown is a complete back that was asked to do the little things in college. His ability to catch the ball and block will be very useful at the pro level.
    • Needs: RB, OLB, LT, QB, WR
    • Hope might be available: QB A Smith
    • Other Options: WR B Edwards, trade down
    .
  3. Cleveland Browns

    WR Braylon Edwards - Michigan

Newly hired GM Phil Savage and head coach Romeo Crennel share a defense first mentality so the selection of a defensive player with this pick or a trade down for extra picks shouldn't be viewed as a surprise. Still, this is a team that needs more help than one draft can provide so taking the top player on their draft board is not a bad idea. Since the Browns don't need a running back and no defensive player is really worth the third pick they will actually be lucky if Braylon Edwards is available. Edwards made himself alot of money by returning to school and working hard to become more consistent. His size, speed and ball skills in combination with his improvement as a receiver as a senior makes him the first wideout selected and one of the most sought after players in this draft.
    • Needs: DL, LB, QB, OT, WR
    • Hoped might be available: A Smith
    • Other Options: LB D Johnson, LB/DE S Merriman, trade down
    .
  4. Chicago Bears

    RB Cedrick Benson - Texas

The addition of Cedrick Benson along with the signing of Mushin Muhammad, return of Rex Grossman and hiring of new coordinator Ron Turner would be a good start toward revitalizing a moribund offense. Benson is about as close to a sure thing as it gets in this draft. A workhorse back with an impressive size/speed ratio that has experience carrying the load at the highest level of college football. The top three backs in this draft are really evenly matched. Benson goes before Cadillac Williams because the Bears are looking for a power back to move the chains in the cold Chicago winter.
    • Needs: WR, RB, TE, OLB, OG
    • Hope might be available: WR B Edwards
    • Other Options: LB D Johnson, WR M Williams
    .
  5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

    QB Aaron Rodgers - California

Jon Gruden has talked a lot about moving up for one of the top two quarterbacks. While Alex Smith may be his first choice, having Aaron Rodgers fall to the fifth pick wouldn't be a bad alternative. Rodgers looks like a perfect fit in the west coast offense. He is more polished than Smith and appears to be the safer pick of the two. Rodgers provides a nice combination of arm strength and accuracy. The fact that he measured in at a legitimate 6'2" at the combine and showed more athletcism than expected won't hurt his case.
    • Needs: RB, WR, OG, S, LB
    • Hope might be available: WR B Edwards, QB A Smith
    • Other Options: RB C Williams, WR M Williams, trade up
    .
  6. Tennessee Titans

CB Artrel Rolle - Miami, Fla

The Titans are undergoing a difficult rebuilding period because of cap related issues. Samari Rolle, Derrick Mason, Kevin Carter and Fred Miller have all been let go this offseason despite a lack of viable replacements. Antrell Rolle's pro day workout has quieted concerns that his physical style of play will not translate well into the NFL because of the focus on illegal contact and pass interference. He has the skills to excel at the next level as long as he can refine his technique and become slightly less aggressive in coverage. His ability to blitz and support the run will be immediately welcome.
    • Needs: CB, WR, OT, LB, OG
    • Hope might be available: WR B Edwards
    • Other Options: OT A Barron, WR M Williams
    .
  7. Minnesota Vikings

WR Troy Williamson - South Carolina

The trade of Randy Moss has created a need at receiver that was clearly not filled by the signing of Travis Taylor. Taking Troy Williamson over Mike Williams would admittedly be a risk. The main reason the Vikings are said to prefer Williamson is speed. This looks like a very good situation for him. Williamson decided to come out early and remains a bit of a wildcard because he was under utilized in a run oriented offense. He could contribute immediately as a third receiver behind Nate Burleson and Marcus Robinson while refining his considerable skills.
    • Needs: WR, DE, OG, SS, OLB
    • Hope might be available: RB C Benson, WR B Edwards
    • Other Options: LB D Johnson, DE S Merriman, WR M Williams
    .
  8. Arizona Cardinals

    RB Carnell Williams - Auburn

It isn't much of a secret that the Cardinals desperately need to upgrade their running game. Cadillac Williams is an explosive back with the ability to run inside or outside despite a lack of top size. He is really a natural runner with vision, balance and cutting ability that can't be taught. Maybe the most important thing that Anderson showed at the Senior Bowl and combine was the ability to catch the ball which was something he wasn't asked to do at Auburn.
    • Needs: CB, RB, DT, TE, QB
    • Hope might be available: CB A Rolle, QB A Rodgers, QB A Smith
    • Other Options: CB A Jones
    .
  9. Washington Redskins

CB Adam Jones - West Virginia

Things have not been going very well for the Redskins this off season. Holes have opened up on the defense at middle linebacker and corner to go along with end. Any one of those areas or receiver could be addressed with this pick. The most surprising loss was probably Fred Smoot. Smoot had developed into a solid cover corner and Washington was expected to do everything possible to retain his services. Things just didn't work out. Pacman Jones is a fluid, agile cover corner that is a solid tackler and willing in run support. Although he lacks the experience of both Antell Rolle and Carlos Rogers, his speed and athleticism are impossible to ignore.
    • Needs: CB, DE, WR, MLB, OG
    • Hope might be available: WR T Williamson
    • Other Options: DE S Merriman, WR M Williams
    .
  10. Detroit Lions

    LB Derrick Johnson - Texas

Derrick Johnson would have likely been the first LB selected last year had he decided to leave school early. His stock did not drop as a senior. Johnson is an instictive, explosive and productive performer that is always around the ball. He has the ability to immediately provide an upgrade over James Davis on the weak side.
    • Needs: DE, LB, OT, FS, WR
    • Hope might be available: no one in particular
    • Other Options: OT A Barron, DE S Merriman
    .
  11. Dallas Cowboys

    LB/DE Shawne Merriman - Maryland

Shawne Merriman has the skills to develop into a difference maker. He is a boom or bust type pick with the kind of size, speed and athleticism that is coveted. There is alot of talk that Bill Parcells wants to switch to a 3-4 alignment. Merriman should not have major problems adapting to being a 3-4 OLB and a DE in nickel packages after playing as a hybrid DE/LB in college.
    • Needs: S, DE, LB, WR, CB
    • Hope might be available: LB D Johnson
    • Other Options: DE M Spears, LB/DE D Ware
    .
  12. San Diego Chargers (from NY Giants)

LB/DE Demarcus Ware - Troy St

After their surprising improvement last season the Chargers are looking to take the next step. An ingredient that seems to be missing on defense is a playmaker in the front seven. Demarcus Ware is flying up draft boards and is the type of edge rusher that teams crave. He was dominant as a defensive end in the Sun Belt conference. Ware seems to fit best at outside linebacker in a 3-4 because of his athleticism and lack of bulk.
    • Needs: DE, OLB, LT, WR, FS
    • Hope might be available: LB/DE S Merriman, WR T Williamson
    • Other Options: OT A Barron, DE M Spears, WR M Williams
    .
  13. Houston Texans

OT Alex Barron - Florida St

The Texans have been trying to find a blindside protector for David Carr since making him their first ever draft pick in 2002. Having Alex Barron fall into their laps would be a major break. Barron is a natural left tackle. His quickness and wingspan make him tough to beat in pass protection. Despite his impressive physical attributes, Barron lacks experience and needs to work on the finer points. That is the main reason he falls this far. His upside potential could easily get him drafted in the top ten after good offseason workouts.
    • Needs: OT, DE, SS, WR, LB
    • Hope might be available: LB/DE S Merriman, LB/DE D Ware
    • Other Options: DE M Spears, WR M Williams
    .
  14. Carolina Panthers

    WR Mike Williams - USC

The cupboard is not bare at receiver despite the loss of Mushin Muhammad with Steve Smith and Keary Colbert still on the roster. That said, the depth chart is very thin after the top two. Mike Williams is a big, physical playmaker that is just too good to pass up at this point. Williams made a mistake after the 2003 season by hiring an agent before the Maurice Clarett draft eligibility decision was overturned on appeal. He was dominant at USC as a freshman and sophomore despite a lack of blazing speed. His hands and body control were astounding.
    • Needs: WR, S, G/RT, RB, OLB
    • Hope might be available: OT A Barron, RB C Benson
    • Other Options: OT J Brown, S/LB T Davis
    .
  15. Kansas City Chiefs

    S/LB Thomas Davis - Georgia

Trading for Patrick Surtain gives the Chiefs some flexibility with this pick. Drafting Thomas Davis would be another step toward improving a defense that has already been bolstered by the additions of Surtain, Kendrell Bell, Carlos Hall and Sammy Knight. Davis is a playmaker. He decided to declare early despite having limited experience at safety after playing linebacker earlier in his career. His versatility would increase the Chiefs' options. Given the current state of the depth chart he would most likely be tried first at weakside linebacker.
    • Needs: OLB, DE, CB, WR, QB
    • Hope might be available: LB D Johnson, LB/DE D Ware
    • Other Options: DE E James, CB C Rogers
    .
  16. New Orleans Saints

    CB Carlos Rogers - Auburn

The Saints need to find playmakers on defense. They could use an upgrade at every postion except defensive end. Carlos Rogers blossomed as a senior and won the Thorpe Award as the nation's best defensive back. He has an intiguing blend of size, speed and athleticism. Rogers is known as a hard worker that is willing to mix it up. He is probably the most ready of the top corners to step in immediately and contribute on a full time basis.
    • Needs: LB, DT, S, OT, CB
    • Hope might be available: S/LB T Davis, LB D Johnson, LB/DE D Ware
    • Other Options: DT T Johnson
    .
  17. Cincinnati Bengals

    DE Marcus Spears - LSU

Marcus Spears has the ability to step in at strong side defensive end opposite Justin Smith and provide an immediate upgrade over Duane Clemons. Spears has the size to hold up at the point of attack and the explosiveness to cause havoc in the backfield. He should also be able to move inside on passing downs to give the Bengals the kind of push up the middle that can't be provided by John Thornton or Bryan Robinson
    • Needs: C/G, S, DE, TE, DT
    • Hope might be available: S/LB T Davis
    • Other Options: DE E James, DT T Johnson
    .
  18. Minnesota Vikings

    DE Erasmus James - Wisconsin

The Vikings have done a nice job in free agency of rebuilding the defense in an attempt to remake their image after the Randy Moss deal. Adding a weakside end appears to be the last piece to the puzzle of building one of the best defensive lines in the NFL. Erasmus James improved his draft position as a senior more than just about anyone after missing all of the previous season due to a hip injury that at the time was considered career threatening. He displayed his tremendous athleticism and quickness off the ball by making life miserable for opposing QBs. James has the physical skills to develop into a special pass rusher at the next level with some work on technique and in the weight room.
    • Hope might be available: S/LB T Davis
    • Other Options: WR M Clayton, DE D Pollack
    .
  19. St. Louis Rams

    OT Jammal Brown - Oklahoma

Jammal Brown is an experienced three year starter that would immediately fill a major need on the right side of the offensive line. The reigning Outland Trophy winner, Brown combines solid athleticism and agility with the frame to add more bulk. He is probably limited to the right side by a lack of quickness that would be a liabiliy against top speed rushers. That should be OK on a team that finally managed to resign Orlando Pace to a long term deal.
    • Needs: RT, CB, S, DE, TE
    • Hope might be available: DE E James, CB C Rogers
    • Other Options: DE D Pollack
    .
  20. Dallas Cowboys (from Buffalo)

    WR Mark Clayton - Oklahoma

The Cowboys really want to use both of their first rounders to add bulk to the defensive front seven. That may prove impossible without a trade up for Marcus Spears. Mark Clayton is not a bad fall back position. Clayton would provide youth to an aging receiver corps and give Dallas some insurance in case Keyshawn Johnson goes through with his threat to hold out for more money. The only thing that Clayton lacks is prototypical height. His speed, quickness, hands and route running ability are all top notch. His explosiveness and big play ability would be especially welcome additions to an offense that got more and more conservative as last season progressed.
    • Hope might be available: DE M Spears
    • Other Options: DT/DE S Cody, DT T Johnson, trade up
    .
  21. Jacksonville Jaguars

    CB Fabian Washington - Nebraska

Signing Reggie Hayward and Marcelus Wiley plugged the Jaguars biggest hole on defense. Now they can turn their attention to the secondary. Fabian Washington's decision to enter the draft early was a surprise. He was flying under the radar screen until a breakout performance at the combine. Washington was a productive three year starter in the Big 12. He combines decent size with above average athleticism and blazing speed.
    • Needs: OT, CB, RB, DE, WR
    • Hope is available: DE E James
    • Other Options: DE D Pollack, OT K Barnes
    .
  22. Baltimore Ravens

WR Roddy White - Alabama, Birmingham

Signing Derrick Mason was a good first step toward improving the worst receiving corps in the league. More talent is needed. Roddy White is a physical, athletic receiver that used his skills to dominate at a lower level of competition. He needs to refine his route running at the next level to reach his potential. He would benefit from playing next to a consumate professional like Mason.
    • Needs: DT, WR, C, RT, CB
    • Hope might be available: WR M Clayton
    • Other Options: DT T Johnson
    .
  23. Seattle Seahawks

    DE David Pollack - Georgia

David Pollack is far too good for the Seahawks to pass up even though outside linebacker is their most pressing need on defense. Pollack was an ultra-productive collegian that lacks top measurables. He makes up for a lack of size and straight line speed with toughness, agility and a quick first step. While there is some concern that Pollack will get engulfed by bigger tackles, Mike Holmgren is bound to appreciate his attitude and work ethic.
    • Needs: C/G, OLB, DE, WR, RB
    • Hope might be available: LB/DE D Ware
    • Other Options: OT K Barnes, C/G C Spencer
    .
  24. Green Bay Packers

DT Travis Johnson - Florida St

The Packers are in a tough spot in this scenario. They really want to draft a safety, linebacker or edge pass rusher. Unfortunately none are available that provide value with this pick. Travis Johnson would compete inside with the disappointing Cletidus Hunt for the spot next to Grady Jackson. Hunt could eventually move to end to provide depth behind Aaron Kampmann. Johnson's active, disruptive style would provide a nice compliment to Jackson. Johnson was a top recruit with a reputation as an underacheiver before maturing as a senior.
    • Needs: LB, S, DE, CB, OG
    • Hope might be available: DE D Pollack
    • Other Options: S B Pool, CB/S M Jackson, trade down
    .
  25. Washington Redskins (from Denver)

    QB Jason Campbell - Auburn

Jason Campbell's stock is on the rise. He is a four year started that finally blossomed as a senior. Some experts like Ron Jaworski prefer him to Aaron Rodgers. Patrick Ramsay is clearly not a favorite of Joe Gibbs. Last year the attempt to replace Ramsay with Mark Brunell failed miserably. Whether Campbell is the answer or not will take more than a season to determine.
    • Hope might be available: WR R White
    • Other Options: WR/TE M Jones
    .
  26. Oakland Raiders (from NY Jets)

    CB Justin Miller - Clemson

The Raiders have completely revamped their offense by trading for Randy Moss, resigning Jerry Porter and signing Lamont Jordan. Incumbent QB Kerry Collins should be a very happy man. The defense is another story. Justin Miller provides Al Davis with something that he craves. Speed. Miller has tremendous upside even though he is not a finished product. He is a fluid athlete that plays the ball in the air very well and has a knack for making the big play. Miller is also an inconsistent tackler and sometimes gambles too much which can result in giving up the big play. The bottom line is that his faults are correctable and his physical skills are unteachable.
    • Needs: LB, CB, S, G/C, DT
    • Hoped might be available: CB F Washington
    • Other Options: DT L Castillo, DE/DT S Cody
    .
  27. Atlanta Falcons

    OT Khalif Barnes - Washington

Khalif Barnes really burst onto the scene during Senior Bowl week and solidified his draft stock at the combine. His athleticism and agility are incredible for his size. Barnes redshirted as a defensive linemen before moving to the offensive side of the ball and starting every game at weakside tackle for three straight seasons. A wrist injury ended his senior season and put his draft position in doubt. Barnes has definitely proven that the injury is behind him.
    • Needs: OT, DL, WR, OG, CB
    • Hoped might be available: WR R White
    • Other Options: DT/DE S Cody, S B Pool
    .
  28. San Diego Chargers

    WR/TE Matt Jones - Arkansas

The Chargers are looking for a big play threat at receiver to help further the development of their young quarterbacks. Matt Jones has all the tools and then some. He is slightly over 6'6" tall which would be welcome given the small stature of the receivers currently on the roster. He ran two sub-4.45 forties at the combine. His times in the short shuttle (4.11) and three cone drill (6.65) were better than most corners. Jones was a playmaker in college that just isn't a good enough passer to stay at quarterback in the pros. He will be tough for the Chargers to pass up should the draft break this way.
    • Hope might be available: WR R White
    • Other Options: DE/DT S Cody, S B Pool
    .
  29. Indianapolis Colts

    DT/DE Shaun Cody - USC

The Colts need help everywhere on defense. They might be best off just taking the best defensive player on the board with all of their picks despite a lack of depth in the interior of the offensive line and the uncertainty surrounding Edgerin James. Shaun Cody's versatility would definitely help the situation. His main role would be inside at defensive tackle. He would also not be out of place providing depth outside on the strong side opposite Dwight Freeney.
    • Needs: CB, LB, DT, OG, DE
    • Hoped might be available: CB J Miller
    • Other Options: CB/S M Jackson
    .
  30. Pittsburgh Steelers

    TE Heath Miller - Virginia

Heath Miller's draft position is very up in the air because he has been unable to workout due to surgery to repair a sports hernia. Miller certainly has the skills to excel. He combines soft hands with intelligence and athleticism. He is also a willing blocker that could improve with some added bulk. All that Miller lacks is the explosiveness to be a top downfield threat. Miller would provide Ben Roethlisberger with another option in the passing attack. If medically cleared and ready for mini-camp he is the one player the Steelers could pick that would have the opportunity to start immediately.
    • Needs: CB, TE, RT/G, WR, LB
    • Hope might be available: DE/DT S Cody, TE H Miller, CB J Miller, WR R White
    • Other Options: WR R Brown, CB/S M Jackson, G/T M Johnson, C/G C Spencer
    .
  31. Philadelphia Eagles

    C/G Chris Spencer - Mississippi

The Eagles have five picks on the first day and no really pressing immediate needs. They could put together a package to try to move up for a player they have targeted or just take the best player available. Chris Spencer could go as high as 23 to the Seahawks or fall into the second round. He came out early and quickly rose to the top of the interior offensive line prospects. He possesses a combination of size, athleticism and potential that can't be overlooked.
    • Needs: G/C, RB, DL, WR, OLB
    • Hope might be available: DT/DE S Cody, WR/TE M Jones
    • Other Options: DT L Castillo, DE M Roth, trade up
    .
  32. New England Patriots

    CB/S Marlin Jackson - Michigan

The Patriots seem like a prime candidate to try to move down to target their most pressing need at ILB. Marlin Jackson is a good fall back position should they be unable to get value for this pick. Jackson is a technically sound corner with the size that the Patriots lack in the defensive backfield. His move to safety as a junior seemed to cause his college career to stagnate a bit. He moved back to corner as a senior and that is his best position.
    • Needs: ILB, CB, OG, OT, S
    • Hope might be available: C/G C Spencer
    • Other Options: S B Pool, LB B Ruud

Round 2

  1. San Francisco 49ers - S Brodney Pool - Oklahoma
  2. Cleveland Browns - DT Luis Castillo - Nortwestern
  3. Philadelphia Eagles (from Mia) - DE Matt Roth - Iowa
  4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - G/T Marcus Johnson - Mississippi
  5. Tennessee Titans - WR Reggie Brown - Georgia
  6. Oakland Raiders - DE/LB Dan Cody - Oklahoma
  7. Chicago Bears - WR Terrence Murphy - Texas A&M
  8. New Orleans Saints (from Was) - LB Barrett Ruud - Nebraska
  9. Detroit Lions - DE Justin Tuck - Notre Dame
  10. Dallas Cowboys - S Josh Bullocks - Nebraska .
  11. New York Giants

    LB Kevin Burnett - Tennessee

The signings of Plaxico Burress and Kareem McKenzie have filled the two biggest needs on the offensive side of the ball. Now the Giants need to work on improving the defense. Adding Kevin Burnett to newly acquired Antonio Pierce would immediately turn the linebacker corps from a weakness to a strength. Burnett provides the kind of speed and athleticism on the weakside that current starter Barrett Green lacks. He is a high upside player that falls this far mainly because of lingering concerns surrounding a knee injury suffered as a sophomore.
    • Needs: OLB, DT, G/C, FS, CB, RB
    .
  12. Arizona Cardinals - QB Charlie Frye - Akron
  13. Carolina Panthers - RB JJ Arrington - California
  14. Miami Dolphins (from KC) - LB Darryl Blackstock - Virginia .
  15. New York Jets (from Hou thru Oak)

    CB Corey Webster - LSU

The Jets traded down because they figured their would be value at cornerback in the middle of the second round. They were right. Webster didn't have as good a senior year as many expected. He is a physically gifted player that lacks experience on the defensive side of the ball after moving from receiver. His upside makes him a very solid pick at this point.
    • Needs: CB, OT, DT, SS, WR
    .
  16. Cincinnati Bengals - TE Alex Smith - Stanford
  17. Minnesota Vikings - G Elton Brown - Virginia
  18. St. Louis Rams - WR/TE Vincent Jackson - Northern Colorado
  19. Green Bay Packers (from NO) - LB Odell Thurman - Georgia
  20. Jacksonville Jaguars - RB Vernard Morency - Oklahoma St
  21. Baltimore Ravens - DT/DE Jonathon Babineaux - Iowa
  22. Seattle Seahawks - G/C David Baas - Michigan .
  23. Buffalo Bills

    DT Mike Patterson - USC

Mike Patterson does not fit the mold of the big, run stuffing defensive tackle that has been recently utilized by the Bills. His explosiveness and non-stop motor just make him too tough to pass up at this point. Patterson has continued to impress in the off season after a stellar campaign for the national champion Trojans. He would provide an interesting ingredient next to Sam Adams in the middle.
    • Needs: LT, DT, CB, G/C, RB
    .
  24. Denver Broncos

CB Bryant McFadden - Florida St

The Broncos did such a good job in free agency of filling holes in the defensive front seven that they were able to trade out of the first round for what could be a premium pick in next year's draft. The loss of Kelly Herndon and injury history of Lenny Walls does make depth at cornerback a concern. Bryant McFadden was a bit of an underacheiver in college despite being a top recruit. He is a good tackler with nice size and athleticism that didn't always make as many plays as expected. He did seem to improve as a senior and could really develop into a top professional with the right teaching and motivation.
    • Needs: S, C/G, CB, WR, OT
    .
  25. New York Jets - OT Adam Terry - Syracuse
  26. Green Bay Packers - CB Eric Green - Virginia Tech
  27. Atlanta Falcons - WR Courtney Roby - Indiana
  28. Indianapolis Colts - LB Channing Crowder - Florida
  29. San Diego Chargers - OT Michael Roos - Eastern Washington.
  30. Pittsburgh Steelers

    CB Stanley Wilson - Stanford

    • Options: WR V Jackson, G/T L Mankins, LB M McCoy, TE A Smith, OT A Terry
    .
  31. Philadelphia Eagles - WR Roscoe Parrish - Miami, Fla
  32. New England Patriots - G/T Logan Mankins - Fresno St

Round 3

  1. San Francisco 49ers - G/T Evan Mathis - Alabama
  2. St. Louis Rams (from Mia) - CB Stanford Routt - Houston
  3. Cleveland Browns - LB Matt McCoy - San Diego St
  4. Tennessee Titans - OT Chris Colmer - North Carolina St
  5. Oakland Raiders - DT Anttaj Hawthorne - Wisconsin
  6. Miami Dolphins (from Chi) - QB David Greene - Georgia
  7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - RB Ryan Moats - Louisiana Tech
  8. Detroit Lions - S Sean Considine - Iowa
  9. Houston Texans (from Dal) - DE Chris Canty - Virginia
  10. New York Giants - DT CJ Mosley - Missouri
  11. Arizona Cardinals - CB Domonique Foxworth - Maryland
  12. Denver Broncos (from Was) - WR Jerome Mathis - Hampton
  13. Philadelphia Eagles (from KC) - RB Eric Shelton - Louisville
  14. Oakland Raiders (from Hou) - LB Kirk Morrison - San Diego St
  15. Carolina Panthers - S Oshiomogho Atogwe - Stanford
  16. Minnesota Vikings - K Mike Nugent - Ohio St
  17. St. Louis Rams - DE Jovan Haye - Vanderbilt
  18. New Orleans Saints - DT Attiyah Ellison - Missouri
  19. Cincinnati Bengals - C Jason Brown - North Carolina
  20. Baltimore Ravens - CB Nick Collins - Bethune Cookman
  21. Seattle Seahawks - WR Chris Henry - West Virginia
  22. Buffalo Bills - RB Marion Barber III - Minnesota
  23. Jacksonville Jaguars - OT Wesley Britt - Alabama
  24. New York Jets - WR Mark Bradley - Oklahoma
  25. Green Bay Packers - CB/S Ronald Bartell - Howard
  26. Denver Broncos - Forfeited due to cap violations
  27. Atlanta Falcons - DE Bill Swancutt - Oregon St
  28. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from SD) - S Donte Nicholson - Oklahoma
  29. Indianapolis Colts - CB Darrent Williams - Oklahoma St .
  30. Pittsburgh Steelers

    LB Alfred Fincher - Connecticut

    • Options: TE J Dressen, T/G T Essex, CB D Foxworth, LB M Lawrence, RB E Shelton
    .
  31. Philadelphia Eagles - LB Michael Boley - Southern Mississippi
  32. Arizona Cardinals (from NE) - TE Kevin Everett - Miami, Fla
  33. Tennessee Titans (Comp) - RB Ciatrick Fason - Florida
  34. Denver Broncos (Comp) - OG Chris Kemoeatu - Utah
  35. Seattle Seahawks (Comp) - LB Jordan Beck - Cal Poly
  36. Kansas City Chiefs (Comp) - WR Fred Gibson - Georgia
  37. New England Patriots (Comp) - LB Adam Seward - UNLV
  38. Denver Broncos (Comp) - CB/S Brandon Browner - Oregon
