Hard
Hat Award (Game #2, @ Balt.)
No one is the winner of the weekly Hard Hat Award,
given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel
attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The Stillers went out this past Sunday and had their asses
handed back to them by the Ravens. The
primary reason for the assbeating was that the Ravens thoroughly out-hit and
out-gritted the Stillers from the opening drive of the game. Most disappointing is that not only were the
Stillers out-hit the entire afternoon, but they applied all too few hard hits
on the Ravens during the tilt against their so-called bitter rivals. If you can't get up to hit a bitter rival,
you've got severe problems. If you
can't punish and batter and force turnovers by a stumble-bum QB like Kyle
Boller, you've got problems.
Troy Pola deserves some mention for being in on more hitting
that anyone else. That said, bear in
mind -- the guy was allowed to play as the 5th LB virtually the entire game,
and as such, was rarely ever blocked.
By all rights, he should have been in the action, and although he was in
the mix of things, he didn't apply the blistering hit that you'd expect from a
1st round strong safety playing in his 2nd season in the NFL.
All in all, this week was a disgrace to Stiller football, as no one was wholly deserving of the award.
Kudos to nobody for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Don't wear the Hard Hat proudly, men.
