Best Bet (plus two)

September 22, 2010 by Steel Haven

Not a good week. The Jets came alive in the second half after taking the shackles off The Sanchize to score 21 unanswered points and steamroll the Patriots. Already time for me to stop betting against the Jets although I am not on their bandwagon per say. Earlier in the day a back door cover by Shaun Hill of all people torpedoed my pick of the Eagles. I really need to stop picking road favorites. Only the complete ineptitude of the somehow favored Browns saved me.

I really wanted to stay away from road favorites this week after last week's debacle. Really. Seriously. I failed. I am back with three instead of two. I was actually tempted by four more road favorites including the Eagles (-3) at Jaguars, Bengals (-3) at Panthers, Chargers (-5.5) at Seahawks and Redskins (-3.5) at Rams.

Best Bet

Green Bay Packers (-3) over Chicago Bears

Jay Cutler in prime time in a big divisional matchup seems like a disaster waiting to happen in this battle of unbeatens. If Mike Martz gets him to compete at a high level this week under pressure then I will begin to change my opinion of the Bears. I am (pretend) betting against it.....

Others

San Fransisco 49ers (-2.5) over Kansas City Chiefs

So I have decided to give points with an 0-2 team coming off a Monday night loss on the road against a 2-0 team. Insanity. The simple reason. I think the 49ers are a better team. They desperately need the win. OK, their division sucks so desperate might be an overstatement. Anyway. Alex Smith rebounded from a poor opener in Seattle to overcome a series of turnovers and lead the Niners on a game tying drive on Monday night. Then the defense let him down. But Matt Cassel is not Breesus. Not even close.

Indianapolis Colts (-5.5) over Denver Broncos

The Colts got back on track with a shellacking of the Giants. Even though the Broncos are a better team at home they do not appear to have the firepower to hang with Indy nor enough on defense to keep Peyton Manning in check.

Last Week

New England Patriots (-2.5) over New York Jets LOSS

Kansas City Chiefs (+2) over Cleveland Browns WIN

Philadelphia Eagles (-6) over Detriot Lions LOSS

Year to date: 3-3   Best bets: 1-1
