BILL
COWHER: CAUGHT SHORT
Many people might not have
noticed that Bill Cowhers appearance changes when the stakes are high in a
Pittsburgh Steeler game. His eyes change. They undergo a transformation, and he
really has no control over it. I spoke to Steve Sabol yesterday and he allowed
me into the hallowed film vaults at NFL Films, Steve and I go WAY back, and he
gave me some candid stills of Coach Cowher when he was on the sideline at the
horrific losses this year sustained by the Steelers against the Titans and the
Browns. Notice how the Coach Cowhers eyes change in response to the pressure
of a situation. Steve said that hed never seen anything like it, even when
filming Joe Kapp and Art Donovan, and I tend to agree. Its possible that it
started this year and Sam Ross Jr. knew about it, but since Sam has, shall we
say, an affinity for whisky and cheese fries, we might have to come to the
conclusion that he never saw the change and has face down in a pile of said
cheese fries. Now Gene Collier, hes a bright man, but no one reads him at all,
Wholeys fish market makes it a point to not wrap fish in anything in the PG
that has Genes words on it. John Steigerwald, he probably noticed it but he
was in the middle of another column on how poorly Kordell Stewart, a good
quarterback by any standards, was treated by the racists in Pittsburgh, he
cant be bothered with unimportant topics. Jerry DiPayola cant be asked
because his head, and consequently his ears, is so far up the colon of Bill
Cowher, he just cant see his eyes from down there.
I guess that leaves your
writer to fill yunz in on the bizarre, Beetlejuice-like change in Coach Cowers
eyeballs.
And heres the proof. Thanks
Steve!!!
