Hard Hat Award (Game #7, vs. New England)
Stiller LB Joey Porter is the winner of the weekly Hard
Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough,
hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still
mill.
Porter had a phenomenal effort in the big win over the Patsies. He was a 1-man wrecking crew, leading the defense with 8 tackles (5 solo), along with 3 sacks, a couple more pressures, and most important of all, 2 forced fumbles. Big-time defenses force turnovers through hard work, hustle, and hitting, and that's precisely what Joey Porter did on this magnificent evening. Like James Farrior last week, this is the kind of tough, hard-nosed, never-say-die linebacking that allows a defense to win the tight, tough ballgames. This game was very reminiscent of Porter's dominating performance in the 2002 tilt against the Raiders.
Special mention goes to the Stiller offensive line, who played smashmouth football and essentially jammed the ball down the throats of the Patsie defense, even when the Pats knew full well that the Stillers were going to plunge the ball. When everyone in the stadium knows you're gonna plunge, and you do it time and time and time again with success, that is simply offensive line domination at its finest.
Kudos to Porter for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Joey!
