Porter Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game #5, @ Tampa)
Stiller OLB Joey Porter is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The 3rd-year LB from Colorado St. totally wreaked havoc on the Tampa Bay Bucs last Sunday, in a performance that was as downright dominating as any Stiller LB has had in the past 5 or 6 years. Porter terrorized Brad Johnson with 4 sacks, a few other hurries, and a batted pass, and also stuffed a run behind the LOS. It didn't matter who the Bucs assigned to block Porter --- right tackle Wunsch; left tackle Walker; or TE Moore --- Porter ate 'em up like a hot Primanti's sandwich. The play he made on the batted pass might have been his best of the day. Joey adroitly swam past the blocker, then flew in on QB Brad Johnson and then leaped up to swat the ball back into Johnson's face. The speed, alacrity, and swiftness of Porter on this play was entirely reminiscent of none other than Greg Lloyd back in his heyday. Porter's performance in Tampa is exactly the kind of swift, lightning-quick football that I expect from a Stiller outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense.
Kudos to Joey for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award for the 2nd time this season. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Joey !!
