Desi's Thoughts

- Gosh the Bus is making me really eat crow for the things I said about him the past two years.Having said that, I stand by everything I said in the past. But I have to admit, that the Bus has been invaluable to the team thus far, and kudos to him for staying here at the reduced salary.

- Big Ben had another one of those paltry stats but just get the job done type games. He's no Manning, and he doesn't have the rings of Brady, but there surely isn't another QB in the league I'd rather have...ok well maybe if you stuck a gun to my head I'd take Peyton. But at this point, there's no telling how good Big Ben can become with a few years of experience. All I know is I'm pretty excited to find out.

- If the last 4 weeks haven't proven it, I don't know what else it's going to take to prove that Hines Ward is not a legitimate #1 elite WR.Yes, he produces the statistics, and he plays with heart, and he makes the tough catches. But the problem is he doesn't drive fear into opposing defenses, and nobody gameplans around him.Remember this when we're negotiating with both Plax and Hines this offseason.Because from what I can see, Plax is a legitimate #1 WR and will probably command the $$$ on the open market.Hines, on the other hand, will not command nearly as much.

- Cowher earns many interesting monikers (including Marty Jr., FG Bill, Turtle, etc) on this and other sites for his alleged conservative play.If you had the chance to watch the Redskins-Eagles game on sunday night, you would have been able to witness the legendary Joe Gibbs in a position to win a big game at home against a division rival. The Skins were moving the ball under 2 minutes deep in Philly territory and Ramsey took a shot to the endzone, which was promptly picked off.At the time, the Skins were down by 3 and in chip shot FG range. Now I'm sure the Washington press and fans are giving Gibbs and Ramsey heat for both the call and pass, but I'm just curious what the reaction would have been if Cowher had done this.

- If you pay attention during the games, you'll notice that the pass blocking isn't much different from last season. The main difference this season has been a QB who doesn't buckle under pressure and make boneheaded decisions. But hey, I like Maddox as a veteran backup, but why exactly did we renegotiate his contract.I had written articles all year and offseason pleading with the organization to take a hard line on him.Hey I was wrong on Bettis (and I can admit it), but I was dead right on Maddox and his contract squabbles.

- Max Starks will be the starting RT on a very solid OL next season. The short yardage packages are a joy to watch with Starks lining up as an extra TE.The man is a behemoth tackle, and looks like the quintessential road grader RT.I believe he'll be a major upgrade next year over Ross.

- A few years ago the organization saw a pressing a need and moved up in the draft to fill it (Polamalu).Looking back, I think everyone would agree it was a good move as Polamalu is certainly a difference maker.Looking ahead to next year's draft (I know it's very early), but I'd love to see Heath Miller in Black & Gold.I mentioned Polamalu because it appears we'd have to move up to snag Miller, by all accounts the top TE on the board.Miller would be a major upgrade at TE to Jay "Hot Tub" Riemersma and Jerame Tuman (who would become a solid #2 TE), and give Big Ben a great middle of the field target to complement Plax and Hines on the outside.
