Saturday evening thoughts through the Rolling Rock impaired Black and Gold glasses:

-           We can debate the merits of whether The Bus will get in the HOF. I, personally, think that he is a first ballot HOFer. He will end up either #5 or #6 all-time rusher in the NFL. The NFL puts 4-6 people in the HOF every year. It doesnt matter if Emmitt Smith retires the same year as The Bus, The Bus will get in. (and Still Mill will owe me a beer.) But, the fact remains that Jerome Bettis is one of the main reasons the Stillers are now 13-1. Jerome was once again awesome today. In a game of tremendous awesome offensive efforts (Hines, ARE, Big Ben), Bettis was the leader.

-          That being said, my nominee for Hard Hat Award goes to Hines Ward. It was a pleasure to watch him knock people over, whether it was after a catch or blocking, and then smiling when he got up. In the last few weeks I had been one of those calling for the signing of Plax over extending Hines contract. Being greedy, I want them both, but if we can only do one, I now want Hines contract extended.

-          This was the worst defensive effort of the year. We made Eli look like Peyton. It was only a matter of time before Eli showed why he will become a good NFL quarterback. But, I sure didnt expect it to happen today. I expected Eli to be sacked around 10 times today, throw about 4 INTs, and lose big. Hoke had a few nice plays, as did Troy. But, the CBs didnt play well at all. As bad as Scott has played recently, we need him back in some capacity in the secondary.

-          I thought the offense played exceptional today. The TD pass from ARE to Haynes was a thing of beauty. On the first of Big Bens INTs it looked like Mays stopped, and I dont totally recall on the second INT, but I dont think it was entirely Bens fault. Granted, we could have had a TD on the one incompletion to ARE that Ben should have lofted in there. And I thought the third down play where we ran The Bus instead of some sort of play action was a little too conservative. A TD there would have been real nice. But, overall, this was a nice offensive display.

-          Who wins a tiebreaker if Indy and San Diego win out? Seems to me, the best scenario for us is to play San Diego and let Indy and New England slug it out. So, I am routing for Indy to beat Baltimore tomorrow, then have San Diego lose one, so Indy takes the #3 seed. Plus, I despise Baltimore and hope they lose tomorrow and Denver wins, then we beat them next week and knock them out of the playoffs. How dare Kordell talk smack? Oh, I hope we knock Boller out of the game next week and Korsmell has to play.

-          Even though todays game was close, I think teams we will meet in the future need to be afraid, be very afraid. Big Ben showed that he can throw for over 300 yards, he proved that he can take over a game, and this was without Plax. Another thing teams need to be afraid of is that Bettis and Duce should be healthy and rested for the playoffs.

-          The Black and Gold glasses have just noticed that the glass is empty and a refill of Rolling Rock is in order. It is Baltimore week! The Ravens are going down Stillers 20 Ravens 7.
