13-1 Monday:

13-1 Monday:

  1. What a weird season. We sit here at 13-1, a record unequaled in Steeler history (even during the 4 Super Bowl years), and weve yet to clinch a first-round bye.
  2. What a weird season. The New England Patriots could go 15-1, and not have home field throughout the playoffs.HAHAHAHAHA!!!
  3. Im still worried that we will not achieve the fist round bye.Losses these next two weeks, combined with the winner of this weeks Indy/SD game this week, winning again in Week 17, and well be in the 3 seed.
  4. Interestingly, if the Patriots lose two of their remaining three, and Indy wins out, the Pats still get the first round bye.
  5. Saturdays game:
    1. What a smart play by Hines to stay in bounds on his 3rd down reception with under 3 minutes to go.So often, players lose their awareness, and allow themselves to be driven out of bounds in this situation.
    2. What a dumb decision by Tom Coughlin to go for 2 with his team up by 4 and 8 minutes left. There was far better chance that the Steelers would score a TD (as they did, thereby regaining a 3-point lead) than there was of the Steelers kicking two field goals in the final 8 minutes.
    3. Dating myself.the last time the Jints ran an opening kickoff back for a TD was in 1966against the Pittsburgh Steelers.I was at that game, the season opener in Pitt Stadium, a 34-34 tie.
    4. I know this would never happen, and Im not necessarily advocating this (though I have in the past), but kickoffs OOB could be the safer route to go this Sunday, if Cowher insists on yanking Harrison off of the kickoff team, and If Kriiewaldt doesnt play.I really think that the only way we lose to the RatBirds is via a return of some sort for a TD.
    5. Maybe its just the camera choosing to show it, but Plaxico seems a whole lot more exuberant that is generally the case with injured players on the sideline.I take this as a good thing, a good sign that hell be back next year.

  1. Speaking of next year, I generally dont like looking into the future in the midst of this magical season, but I was surprised with the release of next years opponents.I dont understand, nor do I like, why the Steelers would have away games at the NFC Norths #1 & #2 teams. Also, I thought that we would play at home against two of the AFCs 3 Division winners, as Balt. Played away games against two of the three this year.Guess it doesnt necessarily rotate in an orderly way.I do like drawing the Patriots at home again..
  2. Peeking ahead to the next two weeks (and thinking optimistically), should we win next week, and the Pats lose one,who do we rest completely in the Buffalo game.In that circumstance, I would opt to have Willie Parker carry the load for virtually the entire game. Why risk a fragile Duce or Haynes, and why risk an injury to an otherwise healthy Bettis.Would we see Tommy Maddox??I think so.
