Best Bet Plus Two (week 11)

November 18, 2009 by Steel Haven

If you can't count on the Redskins, who can you count on? Last Sunday was reminiscent of the early season when my best bet was beaten twice after their quarterbacks were knocked out of the game. After the performance against the Steelers who would have thought that Kyle Orton getting knocked out of a game would be a bad thing. Chris Simms proved ineptitude can be relative. A third straight 1-2 week. Back to .500 on my best bets. Done in for a second straight week by the Buccaneers. The Buccaneers. This time at least wearing red and pewter instead of neon orange. Saved only the complete ineptitude of Eric Mangini, Brady Quinn and the Browns.

No more byes. Hallelujah. Not that only having a pair of teams on bye last week helped me any as opposed to the previous 2 weeks when 6 teams were on bye. I am saddened that I can't bet against the Browns because they are getting 3.5 points in Detroit against a fellow 1 win team. Who could possibly predict what will happen in that game? So I'm going for 3 road favorites with lines I am sure Vegas came up with specifically to entice fools like me.

Best Bet

Indianapolis Colts (-1) over Baltimore Ravens

Giving up only a single point in the regular season with the Colts against a 5-4 opponent? The winners of 18 straight regular season games. Probably too good to be true. Could the Colts have a letdown traveling to Baltimore after their huge win on Sunday night? Does Peyton Manning ever allow his team to have a letdown in the regular season? The possibility is not enough for me to stay away.

Others

Arizona Cardinals (-9) over St. Louis Rams

The Cardinals have suddenly become road warriors after having problems outside of Arizona last season. This year they are a perfect 4-0 on the road with all 3 of their losses coming at University of Phoenix Stadium. The Rams have actually been playing hard for Steve Spagnuolo. They hung tough with the Saints last week at home scoring in the final 2 minutes to close to within 5. I'm not sure I see them playing that well 2 weeks in a row.

Pittsburgh Steelers (-10) over Kansas City Chiefs

I just can't figure out anything else I really like so I will break my self imposed rule about avoiding Steelers games. The Chiefs were a shambles before LJ got himself released and Dwayne Bowe was suspended reportedly for taking diuretics in training camp to lose weight. Hard to envision the Steelers failing to shut down Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles and Chris Chambers behind a pathetic offensive line despite all the defensive injuries. Maybe this could have been a trap game for the Steelers if they had beaten the Bengals. Of course they didn't....

Last week

Denver Broncos (-3.5) over Washington Redskins LOSS

Miami Dolphins (-10) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers LOSS

Baltimore Ravens (-10.5) over Cleveland Browns WIN

Record to date: 17-13   Best bets: 5-5
