Much has already been
written on Sillers.Com about the Giants/Stillers game but here are a few facts
for those that like em.
History:
A bunch happened yesterday
to make history for franchises and the NFL.
A few for you:
- The Giants returned a kick-off for a
touchdown. That was their first (I
forget the exact year) since the 60s.
Unfortunately it was at our expense.
- The Stillers became the 7th team in
NFL history to win 12 games in a row in one season. Four of the last six have won the big
one.
- The 2004 Stillers made franchise history by
going 13-1.
- Big Ben made QB history by winning his first 12
starts.
- Jerome Bettis.
Much has been discussed about the Bus during the last two
weeks. My colleague, StillMill,
has started much of the conversations and subsequent arguments. Like Bettis or not (and I do) he also
made some history yesterday.
- He once again moved into #5 on the all time NFL
rushing list (at least until the end of today when we see what Curtis
Martin does. The Bus is now only 82 yards behind Dickerson for #4 on the
list. He is likely to retire after
this season, as he has already alluded to but a Bus fan or hater must
appreciate that effort. I dont
care if he weighs 310 pounds. The
Bus has produced. Hopefully well
see his usefulness in the playoffs, the Buss nemesis.
- Bettis also became the 2nd running
back in Stiller history to go over 10,000 yards,; Franco being the first.
- Bettis also broke Francos team record of 48
starts with over 100 yards. If you
include his Rams starts, Bettis has 59 total starts with over 100 yards
rushing.
- Jeef Reed Has kicked 10 field goals in a
row. He is behind Gary Andersons
19 in 1994.
- The Stillers defensive performance yesterday
will knock us out of the #1 D in the NFL.
The Skins will once again claim that title.
- While Im not a fan of the sack stat, the
Stillers D were the number one sacking D in the NFL but have recorded zero
in the last two games.
- Big Ben threw for over 300 yards for the first
time, without Plaxico. That is his
third time this season he has thrown for over 200 yards. His stats arent noisemakers except for
one: 12-0!
Other Notes:
- Unless Ben picks up opponents stunts or the
line gives a little better protection, Ben may need to consult Tommy on
insurance policies.
- Bens two interceptions yesterday were as ugly
as Ben Stiller in the movie Dodgeball.
- Our once #1 defense made Eli look like his
brother. The only difference was
the after game interview with Eli on ESPN. Not being a fashion juggernaut but did anyone else see Eli
and his 1960 looking sweater and collared shirt? Perhaps he was paying tribute to the last time the Giants
returned a kick off for a TD.
- Did the Super Bowl happen yesterday? Living in the DC area, you would think
so after the Skins beat the lowly 49ers.
Stiller fans always complain but we dont go nuts if our team was
4-8 and beats a 3-9 team.
- Speaking of the DC area, I was doing a little
Christmas shopping this morning and went to my favorite sports store in
the Potomac Mills Outlet Mall. I
saw new Ben and Ward shirts, stacks of terrible towels (official ones),
Duce jerseys, Plax jerseys and Stiller stuff everywhere. My point is, it is always good to see
Stiller stuff overtaking another teams market (Skins and Ravens).
- Ill beat the dead horse for 10 weeks in a
row. I dont think our secondary
will help us out against potent offenses (in coverage) unless we play like
we did against Philly and NE. Eli
had fun and we gave him some confidence yesterday.
I would also like to take
this time and on behalf of Stillers.Com wish everyone a safe and happy
Christmas Holiday and Happy New Year.
Be safe, have fun and lets embarrass the Ravens next Sunday, a perfect Christmas gift for any fan.
