Game Chat Interest?

Postby trenches » Sat Aug 16, 2008 7:55 pm

All,

Would any of you be interested in having chat capabilities during games? This would be an alternative to posting messages in a forum topic.

If there is enough interest, we'll investigate a solution.

I would definitely think that would be a plus.

I would use the chat; it's a way to exchange information that does not go "on the record." It also allows more real-time familiarity with other posters.

But, I do like the game threads.

Nel,

I was thinking along the same lines -- both chat and topics have their place.

I like this idea, too, as long as the chat was moderated just like the game threads are. Were you thinking of going with a chatroom type setting, or a shoutbox? In line with what Nel said regarding having more real-time familiarity with other posters, I also like the idea of having a shoutbox, which would be visible only to those who are logged onto the site, for us to use on an everyday basis, but a chatroom to be used during the games.

I'm not a fan of chat.
makes it tough to join a conversation. Especially if you are flipping between this site and a feed of the game.
I also like having a record of what people have said.

Yeah if only I had a record about KC guaranteeing we wouldn't draft a RB in the first round from a few months ago

I've always liked having a chat room during draft time, and during games. It helps to keep the trolling down. It also helps keep arguments to a minimum... well sometimes that goes the other way.

Chats can be saved just like anything else on the forum unless deleted or the forum crashes. If all else fails, all the chat mod would have to do is copy/paste the chat to be saved.

I'm in favor of having a game chat, too. It just keeps pace better with the action as it happens.

As long as obnoxious dipshits and trolls can still get the boot (Mug Z anybody??), I'm all for it...

I love the idea of a chat room. A few years back the "other" site had one and it was a great place to meet Steeler brethren. I'd be all for it!
Also, it's good to see this site getting back to what it should be. I was worried for awhile, but things are definitely looking up!

I'm all for it - I know that the staff/mods have made efforts to correct forum unavailability during peak times (ie games) but chat probably makes more sense anyway.

Throttling posts-per-minute might not be a bad idea to keep those who can't resist copy-paste-enter over and over again in line.

So what's the dealio on the game chat for this week, trenches, dahling? Are we going to do the game day thread for this week's game, and not the chat? If so, that works, too. We had fun last week, and Hammer does a really good job with the psychos.

One thing ya won't hafta worry about is the perv-extraordinaire, Swissvale72. The White Knight of all Female Posters will not be permitted, in any way, shape, or form, on this here site.

Tonight will follow the traditional forum topic approach. I am still evaluating chat options. Chat is coming, I just need more time to find a best-fit solution.
