Stillers.com official Olympics thread - spoilers included!

Postby thesteelhammer » Fri Aug 08, 2008 7:18 pm

Gonna sticky a thread for discussion of the olympics.

Since much of the olympics will be "tape delayed"

Don't want to ruin anyones planned evening viewing.

Will try to keep results and discussions in this thread.

Well, while you guys are drooling over Amanda Beard, I'm going to be watching Michael Phelps make Olympic history. That dude's got game. He must have been a fish in a previous life.

I'm also into watching the women's beach volleyball with Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. That duo is awesome and so in sync (not to be confused with 'N Sync) with each other.

Can't wait for the diving and women's gymnastics competitions to get underway.

USA! USA!

Phelps is amazing. I'm pulling for him to get the 8 golds.
Freeked me out though. I was on the phone, not paying attention to what race was on and saw the finish to a race and it said "3rd = phelps" - I couldn't believe it. Then I realized it was just a qualifying heat and he was conserving energy for the races that mattered.

Hey. I'm a big fan of Mist and Kerri also. How could any red blooded american male not be. ;)
They and Miss Beard are amazing in ways Phelps can't be.

The syncronized diving was pretty cool - so close to a medal.

US's women's gymnastics better get their shit straightened out!

I'm really waiting for the wrestling to begin on Tuesday.

I'm with you though - USA! USA!

US gets silver in US women's breast stroke. Soni, of US, placed second to Australia's Jones (she's a beast winning by over 1.5 seconds).

Thank God for our swimmers! They're racking up the medals, that's for sure. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I think Michael Phelps is a stud and has a hawt body. His mom is just the cutest thing. Chris Collinsworth sitting next to her tonight made me throw up in my mouth a little, though.

Let's not forget that Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh also defeated the Cubans tonight in beach volleyball. They're going to bring home their second consecutive olympic gold medal for sure. There's no beating them now.

Although we are once again ahead in the medal count, I'm resigned to the fact that the Chinese are going to dominate since they are the home country, and have the most athletes. You never know, though.

He has ears like dumbo, how is that hot? Further proof I'll never understand women.

"Hawt" is Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.
They were awesome tonight.

I believe we can beat the chinese on their home turf.

...Michael Phelps joined a stellar cast, including Mark Spitz and Carl Lewis, to become one of the winningest Olympians ever by grabbing his ninth gold medal.

Phelps dominated once again at the Beijing Games, winning the 200-meter freestyle with a third straight world record Tuesday morning. His latest gold medal adds to an already remarkable career that shows no signs of slowing down and leaves him tied for most in Olympic history.

This was the “Race of the Century” at the Athens Games four years ago, when a 19-year-old Phelps took on the 200 free just so he could compete with Ian Thorpe and Pieter van den Hoogenband. He touched third that night. In China, he has no equal.

Racing out of lane six, he quickly surged to the lead and led by a full body length halfway through the second of four laps. Phelps was nearly two seconds ahead of the field when he touched in 1 minute, 42.96 seconds, breaking the mark 1:43.86 he set at last year’s world championships.

Phelps is now 3-for-3 in Beijing, keeping him on course to beat Spitz’s 36-year-old record of seven golds in a single Olympics.

Along the way, he’ll take care of some other historical landmarks.

Phelps’s ninth career gold tied him with Spitz, Lewis, Soviet gymnast Larysa Latynina and Finnish runner Paavo Nurmi for the most wins in Olympic history.

The mark isn’t likely to be shared for long. Phelps will go for his fourth medal of these games and 10th overall on Wednesday in the 200 butterfly, yet another event in which he holds the world record.

He has ears like Dumbo? I haven't noticed. I've been too busy looking at his chest and broad shoulders.

Hammer, Misty May and Kerri Walsh are very pretty, but I know you're lovin' them slapping each other on the ass.

The U.S. men lucked out and took the Bronze in men's gymnastics. Geesh, they fell apart at the end. I don't understand it. They practice that stuff every single day.

Congrats to my loverboy, Michael Phelps, for tying the record for the most career wins in Olympic history by winning his 9th career gold medal. I love you, man!

There's nothing I would love more than beating the Chinese on their own turf, hammer. :surockin:
