1983 Draft

Postby indysteel » Fri May 30, 2008 11:20 pm

Everyone knows we passed up Marino in the 1983 draft. I was looking at that year's overall draft and, while hindsight is always 20/20, this is what could have been. In constructing the below, I only selected from players that were "still on the board" and I assumed that the other teams selections remained unchanged.

Keep in mind that the 1983 team still had talent -- but many were getting older. Also, this is position independent. Merely looking to see who we could selected versus who we actually did. Looking at the actual draft I have to say it was pathetic.

Re-created Draft Pick Actual Draft Pick

1/21 -- Marino (27th to the Fins) Gabe Rivera

1/52 -- Charles Mann (84th to the Skins) Wayne Capers

3/79 -- Tom Thayer (91st to Bears) Todd Seabaugh

4/106 -- Mark Clayton (223 to Fins) Bo Metcalf

5/133 -- Reggie Roby (167 to Fins) Paul Skansi

6/140 -- Mark Bortz (219 to Bears) Gregg Garrity

7/164 -- Tim Krumrie (276 Bungals) Eric Williams

8/191 -- Richard Dent (203 Bears) Mark Kinchner

8/199 -- Jesse Sapolu (289 '49ers) Henry Odom

9/218 -- Karl Mecklenburg (310 Broncos) Craig Dunaway
