Arians and Offensive Line are a fugging DISGRACE!

Postby JumboHeadYouks » Mon Sep 22, 2008 3:23 pm

Are you fucking kidding me? Besides the fact hat the entire offensive line is fucking worthless...Arians, the stupid motherfucker, stays out of the shotgun and neglects to call quick hitters (which worked near the end of game) until the game was in the books.

Arians displayed a total inability to adapt to what the defense was doing. How about a screen or two? A middle screen with Moore? Mendenhall screen to the wing? His playbook looks like it was for a fucking 2-year old with A.D.D! This was one of the worst play-calling performances I have seen in recent memory! How about Heath on quick hitters up the seam>>>???? You realized this with 2:00 min's left in the game? What is with the 5 step drops when you know good god damn well there was no fucking way our piece of shit offensive line cannot hold their blocks that long?

Arians should be fucking fired...and everyone on the offensive line should be made aware their jobs are on the line.

that was my idea.... but take it a bit further. I call it the long range shotgun ....fire hartwig.....use the long snapper at center and have ben throw bombs from thirty yards back for ten yard completions....

its our only hope till the draft

I would have like to at least seen them give the 4 wide no huddle a shot for at least one series, that used to work for cincy against us in the past when we were giving them trouble.

no huddle out of the gun, quick slants = slow down a defense till they could figure it on the sideline.

It wasnt Arians who called the slants it was Leftwich hot routing and audibling. Ben is the one who choked up out there under pressure. Called zero audibles, failed to use hot routes and showed that the pressure STILL bothers him. How can you guys blame Arians and not blame Ben. Did Arians throw the ball into double coverage? Did Arians take that sack in the endzone to make it a TWO POSSESSION game? Lets face it, Ben sux under pressure.

Does Arians have some family connection to the Rooneys ala Joe Walton? Remember that POS, that lobotomized twit that was forced on Noll by the Rooney masters because he was a friend of theirs and needed a job? He was stupid beyond belief and Noll couldn't get rid of him. That's what the Arians situation reminds me of.

JHY, I agree completely, but the only question I have for you is this: Why does Mike Tomlin not receive the same amount of your anger, especially considering he took a fucking demoted wide-receivers coach and promoted him all the way to OC? Just wondering, dude.

Blame Arians, Blame Tomlin, Blame the Line PFFFFFFFFT. How bout blame BEN! That line sure blocked good for Leftwich, tells me the problem is #7, the guy who doesnt make correct audibles or utilize his hot routes, the guy who threw into double coverage, the guy who intentionally grounded and cost us 2 points and the ball.
Oh yeah, Chuck Noll was a great coach, who the Hell couldnt coach with Bradshaw, Stallworth,Swann, Franco, Bleir, Blount, Webster, Ham,Lambert, Joe Green, Dwight, Donnie Shell etc??? The Rooneys provided him a PRO BOWL TEAM. What did Chuck do when they got old? He showed his true colors and had to move on. I call it the Phil Jackson syndrome. Who cant win with Jordan/Pippen/Kobe/Shaq. When he has no stars what happens??

Sure, he's a bit out there, but in reality, Ben does need to take some blame here as well as the coaches. He didn't call audibles, he didn't read the d, he just got the call in and that was the play they ran. Sure, the coaches are truly at fault for not changing their gameplan, but being an experienced NFL quarterback, you need to see what the D is throwing at you. At least once in a while.

Chuck Noll, still only HC to win 4 SB's. Ask players from that era if they think they would have won more than one or two without Noll. Great players, but it takes a great coach to bring and keep them together, to keep them wanting more. Noll had a hand in bringing those players in, and in having them playing together as a team. Some people think that those guys were HOF the instant they stepped onto the field. Talented? Yes. But it takes a great coach to bring it all together and make it work, not once, not twice, but 4 times in six years. True that Noll and the FO couldn't duplicate the drafts of 69 and the early 70s as time wore on, and he did struggle in the 80's, but still made the playoffs 4 of 10 years. Not great, but not terrible. Drafts got better in the latter 80's and he essentially built the nucleus of Cowher's early successful teams, guys like Dawson, Woodson, Lloyd, Lake, to name a few, were drafted under Noll's watch. IMO, Chuck Noll is the greatest coach of the SB era and arguably the greatest of all-time.

Uh Stevie wonder could have coached the Steelers of the 70s sorry. The management was responsible for those great drafts not Noll. When the management didnt supply Noll with talent in the late 80's how did he do? Not so well. Yes he was a staunch diciplinarian but a great coach? I never hear him regarded as such. Look at what Bill Walsh did with lesser talent. He had Joe/Noll had Terry. Noll had WAY more talent than Walsh but who is regarded as a better coach? Walsh is and rightfully so. I'm not downing Noll but Damn when you have Joe Green, Dwight White, Ernie Holmes, Jack Ham, Jack Lambert, Mel Blount, Donnie Shell, Terry Bradshaw, Mike Webster, Franco Harris, Rocky Bleir, Lynn Swann and John Stallworth. COME ON 9 Hall of Famers right there, HES SUPPOSED TO WIN. And the bowl Madden won in 78 and Denver in 77 (afc championship) should have been our too. Noll had so much talent he was winning with BUMMY Terry Hanratty and BUMMIER Joe Gilliam Shiiiiiiiiiish

This is the media line. Just because you don't "hear" him touted as a great coach, doesn't make it so. The reason Noll gets very little press or consideration is that he never touted his own success. He was never good with the media, didn't find them necessary, or important to what he was trying to achieve on the football field. This is a large part of the reason that he doesn't get the respect a 4-time SB coach should be getting...from most of the media or from people like you who think that anyone could have coached that team. Listen to the players themselves---Jack Ham, Andy Russell, Rocky Bleier, among others, have said that with their talent they might have won 1...possibly 2..but no way they win 4 SB's in 6 seasons without Chuck Noll. Those players were talented, but he brought them together to win. Those players weren't HOF the instant they were drafted. Noll brought them together and made them into a winning ballclub. Some of those players talked about how they might have had better stats in another system, or under another coach, but Noll forced them to be disciplined and taught them how to play together to win. To say that Noll was not part of the management that drafted those players is to be completely mistaken.

You can go on and accept the media's view; I'll go with what I saw on the football field. How did Landry and Shula do in the 80's? The game changed dramatically over the course of that decade. Changes to the draft reduced the edge that the Steelers and Cowboys had developed in their drafting system.

Chuck Noll was able to overcome rules changes that were specifically designed to thwart the Steelers style of play. And to win 2 more back-to-back SB's under those rules changes, making changes to his offense accordingly. Stunt 4-3 that reduced great running teams in the 74 post-season to nothing. Cover 2, which Tony Dungy will continually remind every media person who calls it the "Tampa-2" that it started under Chuck Noll. Noll never sought glory for himself, and his legend suffers for that, but true fans of the game see his greatness.

4 Lombardi's in 6 years is all you need to know. Yes, good players are needed. Yes, good management is needed. But to say a great coach isn't needed to make that happen is not seeing the whole picture. It all came together for the Steelers in that decade in a way that was special.

I recall that decade sir. It is when I became a fan of the Steelers. And if you notice by ALL of my posts I'm not SWAYED by the media. I'M saying this. Name one great strategic move Noll is known for. I never said Landry and Shula were great coaches I said Bill walsh was. He perfected the west coast offense that was created by Sid Gilman and Don Coryell and LOTS of teams currently employ it in their offense TODAY. As for the players.. What are they supposed to say? They had affection for their coach as they should but Coach Noll had a team that was on auto Pilot, come on look at the players we had back then. Boy you guys are HOMERS to the 8th power. Lastly, the MEDIA regards the Steelrs (78) as the best team of all time, so where is the media bias in that regard? Point proven

Yes Excellent. Many valid points I must admit but what coach copies Nolls style? What was his claim to fame? What did he do when the STARS got old? How good of a coach was he then? Shula coached in the 60,70s and 80s and had success so did old man Landry ( I cant believe I'm propping a cowboy-hey I'm honest) Noll was only successful in the 70's, thats not great. Sorry.

The Cover 2, which is used by many teams even to this day, in one form or another, was first utilized effectively by Chuck Noll. What innovation is Landry or Shula remembered for today?

All 3 coaches struggled in the 80's. All of them made playoffs (Noll 4 of 10), but no championships. This was largely due to changes made to the draft in the latter 70's. Eventually the Steelers and Cowboys recovered, and drafted championship calibre players, though different coaches were to make them successful in the 90's for each team. Despite having a HOF calibre QB in the 80's and 90's, Shula was incapable of building a winning team around him.

All props to Bill Walsh for the WCO, but he lacked the toughness to continue while he was at the top of his game. Why not keep coaching? I respect Bill Walsh for his innovations, but he loses respect for me for his inability to hang in there when the going was roughest--staying on top. I'd take Lombardi over Walsh any day of the week. Walsh also had players. Early on, Kenny Anderson; eventually Joe Montana, who seemed born to execute that system. Jerry Rice. All of those coaches had great players help to make them great, and vice-versa. Lombardi. Paul Brown. Great coaches find, develop and benefit from great players. Why single out Coach Noll as being different in that regard?

To say that it's "homerism" to consider a 4 in 6 SB championship coach arguably one of the greatest HC's of the SB era, even of all-time, is surprising. Aside from the points raised, Noll had to defeat Landry's Cowboys twice in the SB; had to contend with the Raiders 5 straight times in the post-season (3 straight in the AFCCG), the team with the best winning percentage in the 70's. Noll may have had many great players, but he also had to compete against more talented teams in that 8 year span than any other era in football. And do it in the face of a league determined to stop him through rules changes specifically designed to counter the strengths of his team.

It was a sample. Point is all great HC's recruit, develop and benefit from great players. Some more than others.
I see you didn't even try to counter any of the other points.
I have no wish to continue the debate, and having it end with Chuck Noll the greatest HC of the SB era is fine with me.

I see that you are more interested in debate and who wins and loses than actually trying to find truth, which is rarely dualistic. I see that in your other arguments that run rampant on this board also. You bring up good points, but there is never anything wrong with finding common ground at a certain point. Very little is every truly this or that.
