Steelers draft pick round5(a) Arizona CB Shaquille Richardso

Postby thesteelhammer » Sat May 10, 2014 2:49 pm

With the 157th overall pick the Steelers selected Arizona CB Shaquille Richardson

Surprised we drafted him given the reason he left UCLA.
Big Corner.
his pro day 40 time was 4.43
Will compete at an area of need, could have been had a round later.

Haven's draft board has him as a 6th round pick.
Keep in mind also that we have a later 5th round pick.

The Steelers must like his press coverage ability. I have seen this guy play a lot out here and he may surprise you. He's too young to fully judge at this point. Let's hope he matures quickly (both mentally & physically) with Ike's mentoring.

I hope they have a TE still left high on their draft board. Who's the next best available TE?

Richardson has a huge upside, but will need a year or two to develop (great, can anyone say Keenan Lewis?) I trust Carnell Lake's endorsement of this pick. Keep in mind that not all starting CBs have to be 1st round picks. Ike Taylor was a 4th rounder and Richard Sherman was a 5th rounder.

The problem with this guy as I see it (assuming the character stuff works out (I looked and couldn't find out what the ultimate resolution was to the alleged campus purse-snatching incident)) is his frame. He's gonna need a year in the weight room just to get to NFL size.
