Released/cut players

Postby thesteelhammer » Sat Aug 23, 2008 7:44 pm

With cut downs coming, many players will be cut by teams around the league.
Some of those players will be of interest to steelers fans for one reason or another.

Thought we should have a thread to discuss some of those cuts.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- The Green Bay Packers placed defensive tackle Justin Harrell on the physically unable to perform list Monday and released running back DeShawn Wynn.

Green Bay also cut fullback Ryan Powdrell, wide receiver Chris Francies and offensive lineman Ryan Considine to trim its roster to 75 players before Tuesday's NFL-mandated deadline.

----

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) -- The Denver Broncos released wide receiver Samie Parker and defensive tackle Josh Mallard in their first round of cuts on Monday.

Parker joined the team on April 15 after spending his first four seasons with Kansas City. He was one of three free agents brought in to bolster the receiving corps but he never displayed the deep-play ability the team was looking for.

Mallard, a fifth-year pro, played eight games with the Broncos last season after joining the team as a free agent on Nov. 6.

The Broncos also released receiver Lorne Sam, an undrafted free agent from Texas-El Paso.

----

IRVING, Texas (AP) -- The Dallas Cowboys released four players Monday and reached an injury settlement with fullback Ronnie Cruz to reach the 75-player limit a day before the deadline.

Cruz, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury, played 19 games with Kansas City in 2005 and 2006. He was released by the Chiefs during training camp last year while recovering from a knee injury.

The players released were cornerback Quincy Butler, quarterback Jeff Terrell and a pair of rookie free agents, punter Jay Ottovegio and receiver Daniel Polk.
