MARVEL DONE?
Posted by Mike Florio on November 12, 2008, 7:41 p.m. EST
We’re told that Steelers tackle Marvel Smith, who hasn’t played since October 5 at Jacksonville, currently is expected to undergo back surgery, and he will miss the rest of the year.

On Tuesday, coach Mike Tomlin suggested that Smith could return this weekend.

“He’s missed some time. Not only in terms of health, but technically he’s got to be up to speed,” Tomlin said. “He’s got to knock the rust off quickly if he’s going to play for us this weekend.”

Smith, a nine-year veteran, has started every game that he has played since his second year, and he started the first five games of the 2008 season. Max Starks has struggled at times in place of Smith.

Dulac in the PG this morning said that Tomlin was asked if it was possible Marvel would miss rest of the season and Tomlin said,"No not at this time." Starks got his $7mil just for this very scenerio. It's time he earned his paycheck. If Starks can't do it the team needs to admit their huge mistake in paying Starks that outrageous contract and give Essex a shot. With Smith's back this fragile there should not be an extension in his future. That leaves Starks and Essex. Starks has played his way off this team. Give Essex a chance before moving forward with what we can only hope is a plan by Colbert to rebuild this gawd-awful OL in the offseason. So Goodbye Marvel, Goodbye Maxipad, Good bye Essex. Hello?????

We aren't going anywhere this year without a real LT.

HOW MANY SEASONS DO WE HAVE TO ENDURE UNTIL WE REALIZE SOME STRONG FACTS THAT HAVE BEEN SUPPORTED WITH STRONG EVIDENCE. THIS ISSUE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTNTION:
1) OL NEEDS: LT- SMITH IS DONE, GONE, AND BURIED. MAKE A CHOICE- STARKS OR NO STARKS. MY PREFERENCE IS TO MOVE STARKS TO RT AND FILL LT VIA FREE AGENCY. RG- KEOMEOTU LONG TERM (FINAL YEAR OF COONTRACT)? C- HARTWIG HAS FILLED IN GOOD FOR THE SHORT TERM (NEED TO START LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT NEXT YEAR). RG- THE DARNELL STAPELTON PROJECT- FLIP A COIN. RT- COLON LACKS DISCIPLINE AND TECHNIQUE (MOVE STARKS HERE). DEPTH- TRAI ESSEX NEEDS TO IMPROVE.
REMEDY- DRAFT. FREE AGENCY IS MERKY WATERS FOR ANSWERS. MAYBE TRADE SKILL POSITION AND PICKS FOR A QUALITY LT (ONE WITH A NASTY ATTITUDE AND LOVE FOR DRIVE BLOCKING). ONE THING IS FOR SURE, GOOD BYE MARVEL (AND HOPEFULLY ARIANS TOO).

out for the year with back spasms? i have a feeling that injury report isn't 100% accurate.

seriously if it's just back spasms send his fuckin ass to a massage therapist or give him ultrasound therapy and he'd be ready for action 2 weeks max
