Worst Tackles in the league

Postby UncleDick » Sun Nov 09, 2008 8:32 pm

I would probably take any other tackle in the league over Starks and Colon. Starks makes me fucking sick.

next year I say take O line in first round and second round. D line in third.

I KNOW most teams dont have all first round o line picks but we need instant impact and the higher the round....the more likely the impact. and thats a fact.

I'm still wondering why Essex isn't in there. He's shown in the past he's at least capable of having a decent game, unlike starks and colon

Without question Steelers have worst OT's in the league...maybe the worst OL period. Where was the running game at? Colts small defensive line should have been blown off the ball. The question is how does this problem get fixed? First, fire Arians and Larry Porn. Start over on offense next year. Do NOT re-sign Starks, Essex, or Marvel. Marvel's back doesn't look like a safe investment. Do not extend Colon or Kemo's contracts. Blow up this line and start over. Now, how do Steelers go about acquiring talent for a position that has neglected for far too long? Nothing much in FA. Jordan Gross and Vernon Carey are solid but will cost too much for Steelers. Jon Stincomb was a name from the Saints who would be an upgrade over Colon. As for the draft. At least 2 of first 3 picks need to be used. Too early to speculate at this point but names like Andre Smith will be no where near our spot to pick presumably in the late 20's. At least a lot of talent this year again. McLovin likes Alex Mack, Herman Johnson and Duke Robinson. Let's just hope Colbert doesnt once again get shut out and take a rb and wr.

I'd be OK with moving Marvel to RT next year even though his back is an issue and playing a 1st round pick at LT.
Draft a young RT to groom in the 3rd or 4th.
Hartwig is OK, but not great.
All the bodies we have a guard have something to prove just to keep a job.

Its a travesty how far Colbert has let this unit fall. In the past there was the occasional weak link usually RT like back in the Oliver Ross days but never has there been a year when every position on the line needs to be upgraded. Just embarassing. It's not even a case of not using #1 picks on the line. The Giants and Titans don't have a #1 pick on their lines. Its that the picks Colbert has invested haven't developed whether it was lack of talent or coaching. Should make for an interesting offseason topic to be certain. Right now they need to suck it up and win some fucking games. Run the damn ball on 3rd and freaking 2!

The big difference between this team and the teams of the Bettis era is that those teams could steamroll their way on third and short. If you cannot pick up the short third down plays on the ground on a regular basis, you cannot continue to possess the football.

And Roethlisberger simply isn't good enough to be a consistent quarterback without a running game that can pick up second and short or third and short....and without a line that can protect him. Some quarterbacks can run a quick, short passing West Coast offense. Benji ain't one of them, at least not so far.

We all hated Faneca, because he was an asshat. But, shit, when it came to the run game, he could outplay any of the sorry guys he left behind. (Pass blocking, at times he reminded me of Hemingway's pal Manolete, but that's another story.)

DOH! Talent is the big difference between this team and the teams of the Bettis era Homer J! You can't expect to replace a HOF player in Faneca with a 6th round blockhead from Utah. Jeff Hartings an all-pro player cannot be replaced with a 2 yr band aid like Hartwig. Marvel never as good at LT as he was RT even before the back injury. KenDoll a wasted first round pick compounded by a ridiculous contract extension despite his subpar play. The Willie Colonoscopy experiment needs to come to an end. Another big difference is coaching. Its hard for McLovin to say the Larry the porn addict is a worse coach than Grimm based on the disparity in talent the 2 have to work with but McLovin is calling for Larry and his Longfellow to be replaced next year. mmmmmm Beeeeeer
