Ben is playing shit football right now and it's not because he is hurt. He has developed some piss-poor habits. He needs to play more like a Quarterback and less like a football player right now, especially since he's hurt. Make a read and get rid of the damn football.

"I love Ben and think he is a fantastic QB but he really needs some work. It seems like he has regressed in his maturation as an NFL QB. Ben used to be able to get outside of the pocket as he felt it collapsing and make plays..he is not doing much of that. It is almost like he is making a conscious effort to stay inside the tackles..and I think he has been told to do so."

Sounds like deja vu all over again. If I'm remembering correctly, even Korky was a pretty good qb until the Steelers "coached" it out of him.

Is byron making quick decision or is he getting the ball out quick because hes going to his first read no matter what?

I would be interested to see a 3 game sample of this in a perfect world, but I would bet over those 3 games you would see the defenses prepare for him and interceptions/sacks pile up do to him forcing the ball quickley to the first read.
no way in my opnion he knows the plays well enuff to go to his second and third reads, so him getting the ball out quick is beause there is no other option for him.

In the words of the worst analyst in the history of television Key Johnson,"C'Mon Man." Slow Ben is hurt and if you believe Tomlin his shoulder never healed from the first time he hurt it. Baby Byron was a nice pick-up by Colbert especially in light of the crap other teams have to put out there like Brad Johnson in Big D. But Steelers not benching a $100 mil quarterback that has guided his team to 6-2 first place record.

Nobody in their right mind is suggesting that Lefty is the future of this franchise. But some folks may be unwittingly saying that we should risk the future of this franchise by playing Ben hurt, or keeping him in games longer than necessary.

We have a more than capable back-up. It's a long season. It may be the best allocation of resources to give Ben's shoulder a little more time to heal, or at least give it less time to get reinjured.

If we see more of Lefty now, we are more likely to see a healthier, more efficient Roethlisberger come playoff time. We have two solid quarterbacks - maybe three. And we should certainly use two of them.

And I have no doubt that a healthy Leftwich is better than Benji with a bad shoulder.

DOH! Homer J is right...McLovin a fan of common sense and common sense says to give Banged up Ben some time to heal. Baby Huey Byron has plenty of experience against Dungy and the Colts. At least being a lefty he can cleanly see Freeney strolling around Maxipad the $7 million dollar man on every play. THAT could get ugly Homer J...DOH!

Re-watch the game. Ben got rid of the ball quick and on-time every time. He did not hold the ball. Of the 3 sacks, one the OL was beat badly, one Miller fell down or it's a complete pass instead of a sack, and the other Hartwig got pushed into the throwing lane and Ben had to pull it down and scramble. So the latter two, Ben had two pull it down because of factors out of his control. Maybe he could have thrown it away, but he moved up in the pocket and took minimal loss. Actually, one was third down so the only criticism is he should have ran. Ben also threw two passes away, by my count.

If there's an issue here, it's two potential miscommunications with Holmes. 6 very catchable balls (3 of which were blatant drops) plus Miller falling down = no issue with Ben. 9 plays there that is just execution and isn't any "cerebral" problem with the QB. Ben seemed to have issues against NYG. WAS is a different story if the other guys just execute.

Ben needs to be benched for a couple of weeks to heal up.
That's the opinion of my doctor, who happens to be a big Steeler's fan and sports injury specialist. I'll take his medical (and football) opinion anyday.
