CAUGHT IN THE TRAP again
-Still Trap is OK with the 2-2
record thus far. No panic here. Yes, the defeat against the Bitans hurts,
but theres so much to be taken from it, even a dimbulbed staff like Cowherds
can make serious progress and advances.
-Trap is not panicking regarding
Chad Scott, either. Stiller fans
forget, or fail to understand, that the Stillers have NEVER valued cover
corners. If they did, DeShea would be
in there. No, the Stillers value run
stopping corners who can cover sometimes.
THAT is their defensive philosophy.
Cowherd actually inherited this from his father, Marty
Shitenhiemer: Establish the run, stop
the run, and keep the games close. Its
a philosophy that will get you to the playoffs, but not much further
Anyways, Chad and DeWayne will
have good days and bad days, and probably more bad ones because of the
SCHEME. There aint too many corners
who can tackle like they do, and THEN be forced to play OFF the receiver some 8-10
yards, without getting beat deep a few times.
The Stiller D went into the game with two objectives: Stop the run, and shut down Mason. They did both. They failed at everything else.
Re-work the plan its early plenty of time to fix it.
-Ever since Trap defended the
pussboy Gildong a couple of weeks ago, the flamer has done next to
nothing. For a linebacker, he has all
the impact of a water pistol on a Bradley tank. Sure, the sack last game was great, but what else did he
do????? Damn.
-Finally, after a few years, Plex
is actually starting to use his hands to catch some passes. Finally.
Hey Plex, welcome to professional football. Let me know the addresses of your high school coaches so Trap can
send them a Thank You Note for never teaching you how to catch
-Many have gotten on Plex about
the play that resulted in the INT in which he ran a slant. Everyone saw him get off the line late. Trap maintains that this is ON PURPOSE, to
give the other receiver an extra second to cross in front and clear. Youll only find this analysis in this
column so either Trap is full of shit, or Traps got better
insight.Hmmmmmm.
Nonetheless, Plex ran a terrible
route, and displayed his propensity to give up on routes too soon, and not move
to the ball as its coming. Can you say,
contact-shy?
-Maddox is a good QB when he has
time, and a below average QB when he doesnt.
No surprise here! The front
office was BRILLIANT in not giving this guy more money. If he were more athletic, he might deserve
it. But, the pathetic attempt to get
out of the endzone was about as inspired as a paraplegic wheel chairing up a
flight of steps. Trap could have fallen
out of bed and gotten out of that endzone.
Horrible. This guy must use
bricks as insoles in his cleats, because his feet are as nimble as Orson
Welles. Trap isnt sure if he wants a
change made to Batch, but, as this writer predicted, we are gonna see Batch
anyway, cause The Statue simply wont make it without injury given this
offensive line.
-Speaking of the offensive line,
how do they play so well at times, and so PUTRID at others? Baffling.
Faneca is a stud, and Trap thinks that Hartings had a good game. But, Simmons still has strength issues, and
Fordham is gawdawful he needs replaced.
Ross was OK, given his late assignment, but Trap has to wonder: just HOW BAD are the backups if they cant
unseat these stiffs??? If Simmons cant
show the strength needed to stop bull-rushes, then its time to put Vincent in
there. Let Simmons learn in
practice. Hes gonna get Maddox killed,
if Fordham doesnt do it first
-Traps take on Zeroue: it has become painfully clear to me that
Amos can make the hard cuts, but does not have the quick feet to make
the soft cuts. THIS is the big
liability of Zeroue, and it explains why he goes down so easily. Hard cuts take a huge shift in momentum, and
its easy to lose balance, or to be knocked off your feet with a hit. Soft cuts allow for balance, and can allow a
runner to take a hit during the cut.
Bettis HAS the quick feet to make soft cuts. So do most of the top-flight running backs in the league. Zeroue doesnt, and never will. A feature back MUST be drafted. Till then, Zeroue must start ANYWAY! He brings the MOST to the table at the
BEGINNING of the game to keep defenses honest.
Think about that. When a defense
opens the game against the Stillers with Bus in the backfield, they have
basically ONE mission get into the backfield. Bus can do NOTHING if they do.
Zeroue at least CAN. Start
Amos. Work Bus in later.
-Still need to throw more to
Reimersma. ESPECIALLY over the
middle. HAVE TO.
-Special teams continue to be
vomit. Yawn. Whats new? Thanks, Bill.
-An offense like the Stillers
needs to throw AT LEAST 4-5 bombs a game.
There is NO REASON not to when you have the tallest receiver in the
NFL. As Trap has stated MANY times in
the past, if the long ball gets INTd 45 yards downfield, we just got a better
punt than Josh Miller gives us. So
what. Strrrrretch the defense!
-As long as Burnt Alexander remains
in the starting lineup, there is no hope for anything more than 1-and-out in
the playoffs. He simply has very little
athleticism, and even less speed. Lewis
and Cowherd are doing THEMSELVES a disservice in the long run by keeping him in
there.
-Thank God weve got the lowly
Brownies coming to town. IF and this
is a BIG IF Cowherd has any sense at all, hed use jailhouse blitzes early
and often against Couch. Tim is prone
to making the wrong decisions, and the defense should be able to win this game
with lots of turnovers. Blitz, blitz,
blitz.
