Here are Brett Favres stats for 08, which illustrate perfectly the Jekyll-and-Hyde act hes pulled the last few seasons. Favre generally sparkles til Thanksgiving, when age, colder weather and his forced passes catch up to him. As you can see, the blistering 125 ratings go out with the leaves as Favre sinks into the 60s, then closes down in the mid 40s sort of like the weather in most northern cities.

Of course, this being October still, we should expect the good Favre. The Stiller D, criticized of late, remains stubborn in the most important stat category of all: points allowed. This means bend, dont break, and no prob for Favre to connect as long as the TDs are held to a minimum.

This also means consider the over, as the supposedly stout Vikings defense yielded 385 passing to the Unibrow last week. Benjis on an unprecedented tear, and if the kings load up to stop Mendenhall, they may live to regret that decision. I wouldnt expect Ben to have the cup-of-coffee day back there he did vs. Cleveland, but neither has Minnesota seen his kind of playmaking QB yet.

Ray Rice picked up 77 on just 10 carries last week, so the Vikes can be gashed on the ground, too. Just be careful to set up the run with the pass, not the other way around.

The Vikings have 21 sacks, 25 PDs, 6 interceptions, and 9 Forced Fumbles in 6 games. The Stillers cant afford to get sloppy with the ball the way they did against Detroit.

Perhaps the most intriguing fact: the Vikings are matching the Stillers in 4th-quarter meltdowns. Meanwhile, Roethlisberger leads the NFL in passing yards (1,887), Hines Ward is tops in receiving yards (599) and tied for No. 1 in receptions. This is not your fathers Stillers team.

Sundays forecast calls for mid-40s with a chance of showers: you can take the Vikings out of the dome, but you cant make them play well outside of it. A couple good chilly-weather whacks on Bretty Boy, and bad Favre may arrive sooner than usual.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How you like that Towel, now, LenDale? The Titans have lost each and every game since the stomp, Sundays embarrassment in New England capping off the Curse. You dont need a new QB, you need to hire a medium; go hold a sance, call up the ghost of Myron and beg forgiveness.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the Bungals exposed as frauds against the Texans, and the Ravens flop in Minnesota, the Stillers have their destinies back in hand. As for the Ravens, theyll always be a second-tier team for one reason: whining. Nobody cries in public like the Ravens, who always blame someone else for their own failures. As for the Bungals, didnt we hear this same hype in 04, after they finally got over the hump against the Steelers? You know, all that black-and-white TV trash out of Muchostinkos mouth. 09 will be no different, as the turnover luck will run out for their paper D, and the Choker will be back gagging against the better teams.

Whos the real MVP? A lot of media types are going all giddy over Drew Brees. Yet so far Roethlisberger is besting Brees in yards per game, yards per attempt, completion percentage, and big plays. But hey, what do you expect these are the same fools who think the Stillers are a run-first team.

Could somebody please tell the guy who runs the Jumbotron to cool it with the shirtless steelworker? I havent seen nips this hard since the last Jenna Jemison film fest. Nor do I want to see man nip, for that matter. The whole things gay as Dancing With the Stars whats next, YMCA replacing Renegade on the sound system? The Pittsburgh Stillers: we want you as a new recruit!

Does Dick L. read this site? He sure has turned up the heat since that last stand in Detroit. I saw one of my fave blitzes Sunday, a jailbreak where all 6 guys wandered around loitering like punks at the 7-11, a couple guys dropping into stances right before the ball was snapped. A couple seconds later they were meeting at the QB. Now thats more like it!

Anyway til next time this is PalmerSucks, and as usual this is what I say.
