Back to .500 all around. Can't complain too much considering how tentative I was about last week's games. Neither the Falcons nor the Redskins could make their games laughers. They both just did enough. The 49ers season is over. As is Mike Singletary's career as a head coach for all intents and purposes.

Another week when no game thrills me. Here's my best shot.

home team in bold

Best Bet

Miami Dolphins (+2.0) over Cincinnati Bengals

The Dolphins have kept their heads above water by winning on the road so they will be in their element. The reeling Bengals can't seem to get both the offense and defense to play well in the same game.

Others

St. Louis Rams (-3.0) over Carolina Panthers

It's a trap. -- Admiral Akbar. The Rams have been surprisingly competent. All that stands between them and a winning record is the final seconds in Tampa. This line basically means the odds makers think they are of the same quality as the Panthers. I don't see it. Carolina finally got off the schneid last week. Matt Moore is an upgrade over the overmatched Jimmy Clausen. But I am not buying into the Panthers stringing together back-to-back decent performances. So I will willingly step into the trap.

San Diego Chargers (-3.5) over Tennessee Titans

Call me crazy. The Chargers continue to outplay their opponents while simultaneously shooting themselves in the foot. Under Turner they have a tendency to just start to kick it into gear for the season when I am ready to give up on them. So is this the week they explode? I'll take the gamble. The Titans are clearly no pushover. For some reason this seems to me to be a tough situation for them to step into.
