Stillers - Pats Postgame Analysis and Grades

The 1-0 Stillers mosied up to Boston to take on the 0-1 Pats.  The Stillers got down 10-0, and then got blown out in the 2nd half, losing 20-3 in hapless fashion.  This was as grisly a loss as we’ve seen the past 5 years.

Grades:

QB:   Rodgers got the start.  He had a miserable afternoon.   Sure, his blocking sucked, and his WRs dropped 3 passes.  That said, Rodgers himself blew chunks.  His accuracy was scattershot.   Then, on a key 1st & goal at the 3 in the 4Q, he foolishly took a 14-yard sack.  Then, later in the 4th, he allowed the ball to be poked out for a game-sealing scoop n’ score.   Complete barf.    D-

RB:

Warren –   had some solid runs.   Gained 43 on 11 rushes, and had 2 grabs for 34.   He’s clearly superior to Dowdle and should be getting more PT.    B-

Dowdle – 7 carries for 22…..not good enough.  Granted, he left with a toe injury.    C-

FB:   rarely used

WR:

Metcalf –  Mr Skillet Hands again had 2 drops, including a cake-easy slant on 3d & 3 that would have moved the chains in the 3Q.   Had all of 4 grabs – 2 of which were 0-step hitches.   F

Pittman – DNP, sore foot

Wilson – Had 5 grabs for 28, mostly on short piddly stuff.     C

Bernard – Had an ok game, grabbing 4 for 35, before ending it with a silly bobble that was then INT’d by NE.  Very poor.  He learns well from DK.    C+

Skowronek – had 1 grab for 2 yards

TE:

Pat FryBoy –  4 grabs for 32.  Still highly underutilized.    C+

Darnell – 1 grab for 7.  Gee, good thing Hextall Khan lavished this stuff with the fatty contract extension.    C

OL:  Overall, the line (Faut, McCormick, Frazier, Spence Anderson, Cook ) had a miserable game. The run blocking was shoddy and the pass pro was sheer garbage.   Cook looks like he spent the entire offseason guzzling a case of Schlitz Malt Liquor each day.  Anderson is proving that he is and was never a legit starter.  Much of this is what ya get when ya refuse to use your starting O-line in the preseason.    F

DL:

Heyward –  Scam had his usual Sunday, ROLLING THE DONUT On with zero solos and 3 meager, meaningless Assists.   Pass pressure?  None?   Impact?  None.  On Stevenson’s 24-yard scamper up the gut in the 1H, Big Scam got bullied and manhandled by SOLO blocking, and the hole was large enough to accommodate a ’67 Buick.  Yeah, Scam had a tipped pass, when the very tip of his fingernail nipped a pass.  Gee, WHAT. A. STUD.   “Scam tipped a pass….!!!”    What a turd.    F-

Benton –  Another donut roller, with zero solos.  All this, after being lavished a couple months ago with that needless, fatty extension.  D-

Harmon –  Had 1 solo, and supposedly 7 assists.  Unlike Benton and The Scammer, at least Harmon was active and trying.     B-

YaYa Black – Blew up a ground play with a good push.   Did little else.

Joseph-Day – had a couple adequate plays.

LB:

Queen – Another Donut Roller with ZERO solos and 2 meager assists.   Yeah, he had an INT…..it was a DONG INT, off a pass that was literally 12 feet too short of where it should have been.   Queen was beaten on the pattern.  D

Pey Wilson – Got manhandled on the long TD run.  Had 4 solos, 2 A.     C-

Watt – Made some plays and provided some good QB heat.  A-

Highsmith – in the 2nd series, Ramsey sacked the QB to set up a punt on 4th and 10.  But no, Dumbazz Alex was lined up offsides, giving NE a new 3rd down.  NE converted on 3rd and short, and then on the very next play,  Henderson ran 39 yards for a TD.   So, essentially, Fraudsmith allowed 7 points thanx to his moronic mistake.

“But Alex had a sack…..!”    No, it was a DONG Sack.   On 3d & goal at the 10, QB Drake Maye saw that his

first look was covered, and after 3 hideous INTs last week, he wanted no part in any foolish turnoverss.  So May ran forward 2 yards and slid, ON PURPOSE, to essentially stop the play and set up the gimme, chipshot FG.   Fraudsmith was actually DROPPED BACK in a short cover/spy role, and never rushed on this play.  Nor did The Fraud even make the tackle; he simply was the closest player and he touched the QB after the QB slid.  For this, Big Alex got credited with THE cheeziest sack ever recorded in the past 5 years of NFL ball.  (NE then booted the 30-yard FG; the 2 yard loss was entirely meaningless. )

Big Alex finished with 2 solos (one being this phantom Dong Sack), and 1 A, in a lame, feckless effort.   D

Herbig – Was all over the filed making plays.   He forced a fumble while making a tackle of the RB near the sidelines in the 1Q.  He lined up with on a combo WR and blew up a WR screen in the 2H.  Had 3 TFLs.    Balled his tail off.    A-

Sawyer – applied pressure on one play.   Did little else.

DB

Joey Porter Jr. -   did not dress, due to contract hold-out or whatever ya want to call it.

Samuel Jr. – played so so.

Brisker – got abused by the TE for 30 yards, first series.

DeShon Elliot – still on IR.

Jalen Ramsey -  stupidly got a 15-yard usnp. Conduct penalty in the 1Q.  What a tool.   Did little all game long.  Is really starting to annoy me.    C-

Jamel Dean – so so game.

Spec teams:

Johnston –   1 of the few bright spots.   B+

Boswell – Booted a 56-yarder, but missed a 57-yarder.     B-

Wetjen- returned some punts and Kos okay.

OC:  Angelichio again oversaw a moribund offense that can do almost nothing with ease and aplomb.   Where’s Matt Canada?  This guys blows.    F

DC:   Graham was all talk, all off-season.  Ain’t shown much in the 2 regular season games so far.  This D makes a couple splash plays, but allows like 9 splash plays by the foe, which isn’t a good tradeoff.   Allowing a crushing 63-yard bomb in the 3Q when NE was pinned down on its own 7 ….unacceptable.  Way too many wide open intended receivers for the Pats in this game.  And getting gashed for huge chunks on the ground….also unacceptable.   D

HC:  McCarthy is starting to look, smell, and coach just like Mike Stoogelin.   Preparation sucks.  In-game adjustments suck.  Attention to detail sucks.   Player discipline and focus sucks.   D-

Synopsis:  A grisly road loss in the conference.  The problems are there, and they are many.  Up next, a home game against Cinci and their stellar passing attack.
