Best Bet Extra (Super Bowl)

February 03, 2010 by Steel Haven

I pulled to .500 in the playoffs with a sweep of the Conference Championship games. I got a little lucky of course with a half point cover for the Vikings in their loss to the Saints. I'll take it. The Saints win was exciting, but not a classic game as some suggested. The game was actually a sloppy, turnover and penalty filled mess won by the team that clearly had less talent thanks to Brett Favre's poor decisions and Purple Jesus' penchant for fumbling. Something that could have happened at any time in the playoffs.

After getting burnt by the Jets twice previously in the playoffs their bubble finally burst. I thought I was in big trouble after they took a 17 to 6 lead in the final minutes of the first half. The Colts had twice settled for field goals and looked like they would have trouble scoring in the red zone. At least Matt Stover actually made the kicks unlike Nate Kaeding and Shane Graham before him. Then Peyton Manning directed a picture perfect two minute drive to pull his team to within a single score. The Colts never looked back scoring 17 unanswered second half points as Rex Ryan finally had to shut up. OK, Ryan will never shut up. I was just dreaming about that last part.

Super Bowl

Indianapolis Colts (-5.5) over New Orleans Saints

The line opened with the Colts as a 4 point favorite. Obviously the betting public the last week and a half has been leaning toward the Colts. Count me in with the unwashed masses even though the injury to Dwight Freeney worries me. The Colts are the better team. Manning adjusted to the mad blitzing of Ryan. Why can't he adjust to the insane blitzing of Greg Williams? As with last week I am betting against the team I am rooting for.... I hope the Saints will pull out a victory. I just don't see it....

Last week

Minnesota Vikings (+3.5) over New Orleans Saints WIN

Playoff record: 5-5   Final regular season record: 27-24   Best bets: 9-8
