A. Smith Wins Weekly Hard Hat Award (Game
#3, vs. Cinci)
Stiller
DE Aaron Smith is the winner of my weekly Hard Hat Award, given
to the Stiller player who best embodies the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude of
the steel workers inside the blast furnace of a still mill.
The
3rd-year DE from Northern Colorado had 3 solos and 3 assists, as well as a
sack, in the Stillers win over the Bungals.
Of course, raw numeric production alone does not win a player the Hard
Hat Award; rather, its the iron-tough, hard-as-steel attitude and
on-field demeanor that ultimately wins a player the coveted Hard Hat. Smitty showed just that versus the Bengals,
creating havoc in both the running and passing game. I was especially impressed with Smitters play against the
run. At the point of attack, Smitty
was stout and stingy, and facing a versatile cutback runner like Dillon, Smith
was very smart and sensible - as well as tenacious - in sealing off Dillons
cutback lanes. Smittys 1-handed sack
of Kitna was as impressive as Levon Kirklands somewhat similar sack in Super
Bowl 30, and it showed tremendous desire and guile on behalf of Smitty.
Others
in contention were Jerome Bettis, Chad Scott, and Earl Holmes.
Kudos
to Aaron for winning the weekly Hard Hat Award. Wear the Hard Hat proudly, Aaron !!
