Best Bets (plus two)

October 06, 2010 by Steel Haven

Back to .500 in both my best bets and all picks combined. The Jets was a 1 pm laugher. The Texans made things interesting letting a 17 point second half lead dwindle to 7 points. Luckily they held on. The Colts were shocking outright losers to the Jaguars. Yes, I know the Jaguars historically play the Colts tough in Jacksonville. But these Jaguars have looked so bad until last week. I guess those that ignore history are doomed to repeat their failures. At least MJD got into the end zone twice. If you haven't guessed I have MJD on my fantasy team.

I finally found a couple of home teams I like in the same week. Previously 10 of my 12 picks had been road teams. Mostly road favorites.

Best Bet

Cincinnati Bengals (-6.5) over Tampa Bay Buccaneers

I like the Bengals to rebound after their stunning defeat in Cleveland. The offense actually got untracked with Carson Palmer throwing for 371 yards and TO totaling 222 receiving yards. A pair of lost fumbles, 4 sacks and the inability to stop Peyton Hillis was their downfall. And you can't hope to stop Hillis, only try to contain him. This is really more about the Bucs anyway. They are bad. The worst 2-1 team I have ever seen. I can't see their defense pressuring Palmer and their rushing offense leaves a lot to be desired.

Others

Dallas Cowboys (-6.5) over Tennessee Titans

The Cowboys have won at least three straight games coming off of the bye in every season under Wade Phillips. Despite being under .500 they are only half a game out in the jumbled NFC East. The Titans are coming off a home upset at the hands of the Broncos. Their outright win as underdogs in their only other road game also against an NFC East opponent is not enough to convince me they can hang with the Cowboys in this spot.

Green Bay Packers (-2.5) over Washington Redskins

The Packers have not treated me well. There primetime defeat to the Bears is one of my best bet losses. Last week they struggled with a lead against the Lions managing only a 2 point win. The Redskins are coming off an emotional road win in Philadelphia for QB Donovan McNabb. Of course McNabb was horrible and all that was really standing in the way of defeat was an injury to Michael Vick. The Redskins previous 6 quarters were some of the worst in recent memory blowing a 17 point second half lead at home to the Texans and then allowing the Rams to score 30 points for the first time since 2008 after they had scored a combined 27 points in their first two games.

Last Week

Houston Texans (-3.0) over Oakland Raiders WIN

Indianapolis Colts (-7.5) over Jacksonville Jaguars LOSS

New York Jets (-5.5) over Buffalo Bills WIN

Year to date: 6-6   Best bets: 2-2
